Look here if you want info about botting systems

I've seen tons of questions asked, and alot of misleading information being given out on these topics. Just look over these simple steps and helpful hints.

Note: I'm given these in Windows 7 since alot of people seem not to use Ubuntu.


How to improve CPU: (Disable Microfailsoft effects)
Start menu -> Right click Computer -> Properties -> Advanced system settings (it's on the left sidebar) -> Click on settings under Performance -> Under Visual effects, unclick all the check boxes.


Need more RAM? (Use your harddrive as RAM)
Same as above, this time go beside Visual effects to Advanced. Click change on Virtual memory.
(By default the box is checked to auto manage this, uncheck it to change it yourself)
(ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE USING A SATA HARDDRIVE OR USB 3.0)


Check for useless background applications:
Any application that you are not using, close. You may also have virus scanners or such that run in the background, if you feel safe disable them, this saves massive amounts of CPU.


What matters more CPU or RAM?
They both play a big part, however CPU is more needed in these cases rather then RAM. You can run plenty of bots on 4GB RAM, 2GB if you use the "Need more RAM" step.


Other helpful hints:
[]: You can use USB storage devices for RAM, follow "Need more RAM" step. However I would suggest doing this with the new USB 3.0 as SATA harddrives are faster than 2.0.

[]: In theory, setting higher priority in the task manager for Java helps the bots, however I see little to no effect with this.

[]: Don't use laptops for botting. Yes some laptops are made for gaming and high performance, however they can't handle the stress a desktop can. Leaving a laptop on 24/7 kills the battery slowly, processor, and several other small parts that will overheat just a small amount.

[]: Addressing another issue, if your botting 24/7 on a desktop, you want to keep the box clean of dust, and be sure it has good cooling. I suggest cpu fans, while alot of people tend to go with liquid cooling. Their both just as good, cpu fans are faster and simple to install.


I've listed what I think the most simple ways are for you to improve your botting systems, and to help you on buying one. There are more advanced ways I will not go into detail due to small amounts of people maybe understanding them.

How do we know we have a sata harddrive or a USB 3.0? D:

 

I highly recommend a case with high air flow.
Such as the HAF series.

No botting on a laptop ?

 

Does that step for improving CPU improve your regular RS experience? I'm trying it out right now, and although windows looks like shit, it seems to be a smooth ride. Gonna take it pking soon lol.

I just got a new laptop and I am trying to figure out how to get it to run RS as smooth as possible for PKing mostly... preferably in high detail. I am only running 1 char at the moment legit, no bots yet. However I may set a couple up for goldfarming. Any tips?

Yes it will improve your overall RS experience. Not only with RS but any game or application.

Laptops are very shortlived, and ALMOST ALWAYS have VERY poor cooling. I would recommend not to.

All I know about mac's is I'll never own one . And to add pics/videos would take nearly forever since I would probably need to do this for Xp, Vista, 7, possibly 8 if it isn't a bomb.

Wow, this would really help for when I'm playing legit or something.
I can never get RS to run smoothly even on low detail + safe mode.
How exactly can I know how to use hard disk space as ram? i have windows 7 if that helps..

 

Being XP wouldn't support USB 3.0, so don't do that. Is your hardrive a SATA drive?
How to find out harddrive type:
Control Panel->System and Security->System->Device Manager
Click on the arrow beside "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"

This is the way in W7, I'm not totally sure for xp since it's been ages.

Right click "Computer" from the start/windows button -> On the right hand side, click on Advanced System Settings-> In the Performance box, click on "Settings"-> Click on the second tab on the window that opens "Advanced"-> Go to the Virtual Memory box, click on "Change..."-> By default "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" is checked, uncheck it. Then go down to you see the custom radio button, click on it, then click inside the box, for Initial size (MB), put what your max usable RAM is, for Maxium size (MB) put whatever you like, I put 16000 and works fine. Click set, then it will make you restart your computer for them to take affect.

This will help you for Botting, legit, and anything else you do on your computer period
