Range PKing question!

I'm making a range PKer since whenever I PK they seem to do rather well. My setup is gonna be 99 range / 99 hp but I have a few questions.

1) Should I get 99 def and range tank?

B) Should I use Rune C'Bow or Mage bow?

3) Should I get my prayer up?

C) What general gear set-up should I be using when PKing?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated since I'm a huge n00b pker. Thanks! <3

 

I would advise against 99 def since 99 range + def would mean you start facing hybirds going for those sick switches.. aka they win. 75 def is good enough

 

99 def is literally shit for edge pking, and tanks are shit when it comes to bridding in general, so...

Here are some def options for you:

a) 40 def - great antirusher, has the acces to common, yet still good rune gear, decent combat level, can even face pures. Optional prayer levels - 12/13, 44/45, 74. (I did exclude 52 prayer, because range tanks should never pk in any other worlds than high risk).
b) 60 defence - often underestimated, possibly the best level if you're planning on getting rigour. Still fairly low combat level, d med pride! Same optional prayer levels apply.
c) 70 defence - unlocks great armour, destroys rune/zerker pures easily. Same optional prayer levels apply.
d) 75 defence - should be only gotten if you have rigour and the money to afford a divine/elysian. Otherwise it's just a waste of combat levels.
e) 80 defence - same as the above, except 80 def is for pernix.
f) 90-99 defence - you're in the mid 100 cb bracket, you get to fight 85+ attack 99 strength zerkers with turmoil, 99 def can barely tank my 78 attack dher. Strongly advised against.

Gear and set up:

Common set-ups are usually about the balance between a fast weapon, that deals damage quickly but isn't capable of doing 'big hits' and a weapon that can do the finishing blow. Some examples:

- Magic shortbow to rune crossbow with rune/dragon/onyx, hand cannon or dark bow
- Dragon darts/rune knives to rune crossbow with rune/dragon/onyx, hand cannon or dark bow

However, if you're uber l33t, you can prod some yew shortbow to magic comp bow just like I do .
Typical gear consists of some black d'hide body, black d'hide chaps or melee platelegs, best melee helmet you can wear, snakeskin boots, a glory and maybe a granite/obsidian shield.

 

Well you could go the basic range tank/vengeance ranger. Personally what I think is even better is a range/melee switch. Magic shortbow to dragon claws with vengeance is really epic. Plus you can keep your defence lower level for this since you need high strength. Doing this without vengeance/defence will put you around level 85. If you max out with 40 Defence you should be around level 100

 

Use rune cbow/rune knifes and make it a mauler at the start then move on to dragon claws youll own soon enough with these tips

 

75 or 99 def, rune c bow, and get rigour!

 

I'd suggest you start out with 80 ranged and PK as a 1 defense pure. You can either use knives -> rune crossbow or magic shortbow -> rune crossbow, or dark bow if you like its special attack. After you get bored of PKing with 80 ranged as a 1 defense pure, move on to 95+ ranged and try PKing with 1 defense. You'll probably be against other 1 defense pures/initiate pures, and you will hit absurdly high. Once you get bored of doing this, get 75 defense, 99 ranged, and 74 prayer for Rigour (the best prayer for rangers). PK with barrows/a spirit shield/DFS with any comboing method you like.

3) I'm 99 prayer but it's a personal preference.
C) Barrows helm, Black d'hide, MSB, Rune arrows, Ranger boots from relekka (not actually ranger boots but they look the same) , Rune/Barrows/Black d'hide vambs.

 

I like 1 defence so I'd say 99 range 1 defence. That alone is an accomplishment and is really owner especially if you throw in 99 mage and strength.. (recommend)

 

Don't get TOO high defense as it renders you useless.
