Just put the texture in the texture folder as a .rar (do not extract it!) As of the mod it all depends on which mod it is. All the class files inside the .rar goes into /bin/minecraft.jar (open with 7zip or winrar). Hopefully it helped and if not -- try look for a read me file in the mod.

What mods are you using? I have a personal favourite mod compilation, which the the yogbox. It contains many mods such as Dr Zark's Mo'creatures, which creates different mobs, however I currently have only used the 1.7.3 with the yogbox.

    Hope this helped.
