Getting my tonsils removed - Help? :o

Well, today at noon I went to my doctor. I've had tonsillitis for nearly two weeks now. They gave me meds. for it, it was working until I had to start taking lower usage of the meds daily.

For the first 2 days - Take 4 Tablets. Ea day.

For the 2 days after that - Take 3 tablets. Ea Day.

For the 2 days after that - Take 2 tablets(this is where it started to come back) Ea day.

And finally the last 2 days - take 1 tablet. Ea Day.

Now, it's a very irritable situation. If you have ever had it, you would know.

So.. Now the my doctor, told me I have a HIGH posability of having to get my tonsils taken out. This kind of worries me a bit. I'm 17 Year's old, and I understand, that the doctors' do not usually want to take out tonsils, out of adults. The older you are, when you have your tonsils' removed, the more it will hurt, as most have said. I just want to know, if anyone of the sythe community has had there tonsil's taken out, and possibly share some advice on what I should do. It will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Getting my tonsils removed - Help? :o

I had mine done, and it didn't hurt as much as everyone was insisting it would. To be honest, I loved it. All I did was lay around the house a couple days and eat ice cream. I have a very high pain tolerance, though. And I'm not saying that trying to brag, I just do and always have. However, if I barely even felt it at all, I'm sure it's just a mild discomfort.

This is not as bad as people say:
However people react to it differently. It could go bad or it could go good.
Your tolerance to pain might be high or low. That will decide how it take effect on you pain wise.
Swelling is perfectly normal and not being able to talk as well. However the PLUS SIDE to this is you get to eat ALLLLLLL the ice cream you want! AND jello ;D

Mine didn't hurt that bad. but good luck!

Thank's, but i'm not the type of person who likes to eat soft foods all the time.

I actually, don't really like to eat ice cream at all, but if it's highly recommended for this, i'll probably spend about $50 on a few tubs of chocolate.

Getting my tonsils removed - Help? :o

When you have had tonsilitis before, you are basically guaranteed to keep getting it until your tonsils are taken out.

I have not had my tonsils removed, but I have had 9 surgeries (maybe more?) in my life (5 of them have been brain surgery!!!) and none have them have been minor.

From what I have read, you aren't going to have any problems.

I know that for someone that has not gone through surgery or anything like that before, even the littlest thing can seem scary.

Something you have on your side is that you know in advance something is going to get done, rather than an emergency suddenly coming up and going into surgery that day.

The best advice I can give is research what exactly is going to happen, how long you have to be in the hospital, and what to expect during your recovery period.

Having family bring you snacks, etc. (that are doctor approved things, i.e. cold if you have to only have that, etc.) helps a lot in hospital (well, it does for me as I am a big food person) and also bring something to make it so you don't lose your mind (I always bring a laptop and a pre-paid wireless internet USB).

Best of luck, and everything will go smooth for you don't worry :)
