    Botting rig:
    Lots of RAM.

That being said, I end up using lots of CPU power on my i7 (60% which I consider insane since it's "just RS"). Right now at 5 bots (all minimum RS settings) I'm at 4Gb usage if that means anything. Note that you won't be able to Firefox or do much else with 5 bots and 4Gb. And doing something like me with an i7 930 with 6Gb is really "inefficient" since it uses power and gets really hot.

My suggestion: The cheapest Sandy Bridge i7 laptop you can buy with 8Gb of RAM and a *good laptop cooling pad*, don't cheap out on that. It'll run you $600-800 but you won't have the horrible power bill with brand new 24/7 heater. Plus you'll save on the monitor.

No problem, I edited it though so you might want to read it again.

If you are serious about setting up the business, I would test out some bots first to see not only what you like better, but what isn't going to get banned immediately.

Either while you are doing this or after you have picked your bots out, I suggest building your own computer to specs that can hold up all your bots. If you don't have the capability/knowledge of building your own computer, there are many websites/companies that will do it for you.

For less than $2000, you can get a computer built that has at least 24 GB of RAM, a bitchin' i7 processor, and a great cooling system so you can keep your rig running.

If that is too much $ to you, there are of course cheaper options to customize your computer with. It just won't be as kick ass.

But, I would definitely buy a custom desktop over a laptop, no matter what your price range is. The amount of money you spend on a laptop gets you much lower specs than you could get by customizing a desktop.

Hope that helped at least a bit. If you want help deciding which bots to run, that part is fairly simple too.

A rig is just another name for a desktop. To run 20 bots efficiently you should get the items listed below. (This method is cost effective)
Amd phenom ii x4 955 black edition
    8gb ram ddr3 1333 (corsair ms3)
gigabyte ga-ma78lmt-s2 ( motherboard should have radeon 3000 on board)
computer case, power supply and your choice of operating system. If windows install 64 bit.

I would suggest getting a liquid cooler. The above can easily run 20 without a graphics card. But I do think getting a graphics card may reduce some of the heat in the case.

What sort've cost would this come to? Is it more cost effective to just run a vps ?

You might be looking at $430. I've never ran bots on a vps before. However I do own a lot of Web sites and have been messing with vps/dedicated servers for the past five years. I would think a vps/dedi would run you around $200 monthly to run 20 accounts (mainly because you would have to purchase several). Now I might be wrong but I know most vps come with basic graphic cards. If you run your farm through your home you will have full control and I would think your machine would run more efficiently. I've taken a look into some runescape vps and notice you can only run around 2-3 accounts for $30 a month. Your guaranteed speed with your own rig. If you have the cash you should try getting a amd six core black edition at least 3.0ghz
