Consequences of buying carded gift cards?

What can happen if you unknowingly buy gift cards that are carded (bought with stolen credit card). Does the store where you redeem it, say Amazon simply take the money back and put the account into negative balance if it doesn't have enough funds. Or something else?

 

Of course something can happen, you buying something that was illegally obtained.

 

Uh huh... I'm asking WHAT happens not if something can happen.

 

Why do you want to know?

Anyways probably nothing will happen, the card already has the value on it.

 

I generally use my gold to buy gift cards and I might run into some carded ones, so I want to be prepared.

 

I'd imagine if it was reported you'd be investigated for fraud.

 

If the original credit cardholder files a dispute, then the gift card will probably be voided.
