xbox 360 disk drive Help needed PLS

okay so i have a old arcade xbox 360 that i bought in 2009 @ xmas it now has a broken disk drive and wont spin any games ive tryed all suggestions out there and now i have found a disk drive on amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001CP5WXC/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new i need to know can i just put this thing in my xbox 360 and it will work or do i need to switch the green board on the back of the xbox with the new one i buy also i have read that you may need to "flash" it which seemed very hard so somone can you please help me

 

If you want to change the drive, you will have to change the CD key of the new drive to fit your console. I'm not sure if you need the same type of drive or not (Hitachi, Samsung, Ben-Q, Lite-On). I would not suggest this if you are not comfortable with taking your xbox and drives apart, along with your computer. You will also need to download a few programs to do this.

I think you may also be able to just swap the physical circuit board that contains the key, but I don't know a good guide for this one, try this site:

Overall, you may just be better off buying a new console if you are skeptical about doing so much to your console. I saw the replacement drive was 26 dollars, and a new console (arcade version) you could probably get for around 80 or so.

 

Hmm well Proc what is wrong is my motor that spins to read disks does not so could i take the motor out of the other disk drive i buy and just swap it with mine?

 

In theory that would work, but I would only suggest trying if you can find a guide and/or have extensive experience in hardware. You would most likely have to solder and/or re-wire.

 

So you are saying that it would work? i have taken apart my disk drive already and all u have to do is just put it back in and screw it but would they be the same motors?

 

Honestly, I would not even bother putting the money into the CD drive to swap motors on the off chance that you either mess it up or it's just not that simple. You can pick up a refurbished bare console from GameStop for like $90 now. That's not bad and you probably get some sort of warranty (you will void your current warranty by opening your Xbox)

Another economic option might be just to bring the console into a repair shop or maybe even GameStop and see if there's anything they could do for you.

Then you're probably SOL.. I find it hard to imagine a 14 year old having the technical and handyman skills required to take apart and swap parts from a CD drive.

 

all it said to do is swap circuit boards and as i said i should be able to just swap its motor with my broken one ?
