    Could just be a one time crash.

    No, it happens every time I play. Sometimes an hour or two in, sometimes 20 minutes in. No specific thing causes the crash either. I've been doing different things during each crash.

    It's the game then, if no other games are crashing then it wouldn't be the GPU.
    Try re-installing the entire game, if that doesn't fix it, check the GPU temps & usage while ingame, ram usage, could be crashing because it's using it all?

    Yeah it sounds like the sound is stuttering a bit or something for like a fraction of a second, then the game sound resumes.

    @Noodles:
    I already said I reinstalled the game. I even reinstalled Windows with all up to date drivers to make sure it wasn't from my previous drivers or something like that. The issue still persists. Also, my temps/gpu usage are not anywhere near maxing out. I've got like 50% GPU usage max, usually never above 90c (480 is rated to run up to 105c) and I play at 1080p so 1.5GB GDDR5 should be plenty RAM to run the game.

    Only 50% gpu? Should be using 80%+ unless it isn't a gpu hog(don't own the game so I got no idea), what about your actually RAM, that maxing out? and cpu temps?

    It's overheating. Probably wasn't the best graphics card.

    I monitor my temps religiously.. it never goes past 92c during the most gpu intensive applications. My specific graphics card is rated to run up to 105c, 92c (which isn't even typical.. more like 80-85c) is nowhere near that mark and other games bring the temps up to comparable amounts without crashing. Also I'm like 99% positive that if it were simply overheating my entire system would shut down/bsod.

    @Noodles
    Yeah it only uses about 50% GPU without tessellation/aa turned up like hell. It does occasionally use more during extremely intensive battles where there's like 5k troops all in one area, but still nowhere near maxing out. CPU temps never exceed 60c, usually hovering around 54c load, so I don't think it could be that. As for VRAM usage, I don't typically monitor that but when I get home I'll check it out just to be sure. I don't see how that would cause a crash though tbh. Usually when you max out your VRAM the most that happens is a huge drop in FPS, not a crash or anything. Besides all of the crashes have been in the campaign map screen which isn't really all that graphically intense to begin with. I highly highly doubt that it would be maxing it out at only 1080p. Maybe if I were playing 2560x1600 lol. But yeah I'll check it out when I get a chance.

    edit: btw thanks all for the suggestions and whatnot, any feedback is appreciated

    Well then, it's most probably one of the latest patches that has broken the game, if your temps and everything are fine.

    Not true. Video cards sort-of will shut down on their own. The screen will go black, but the system will still be running, (fans, hd's, and anything else). You just won't be able to see the screen because the video card isn't functioning. This also happens if you overclock the card too high. Rebooting would solve this problem. At least this is with every video card I've ever used.

    Wouldn't think it'd be overheating if he can get outta the game.
    I'm going to go with the game being the fault.

    Ah okay. Well still, as I've said, it's nowhere near overheating so I really doubt that is the problem. Thanks though.

    The game appears to have stabilized after performing a few tips posted on the official Total War/Steam forums. Thanks all, close please.
