Finn, your points are all valid. Whining seems to be the only communication people have, and it's a sad truth, indeed. As Abraham Lincoln remarked (excuse my misquote, but I never wrote it down), "I see half of the papers berating me for wanting to free the slaves, and the other half are complaining that I'm not going about it the right way." You're in a thankless profession.

Honestly, despite our differences, your dedication for these many years does deserve gratitude. Sythe owes you a great deal.

 

I'll have to respectfully disagree and cite just a recent counter example.

Most of us actually do care about feedback, even if it is negative criticisms. No one claims to be perfect.

 

Pokemoners - Good job on RaSp. Keep up the great work!

 

I'd just like to point out that saying staff are just here for the rank isn't constructive, and therefore I didn't respond in a kind manner.

The staff here are great, particularly the staff who monitor the RuneScape market section, or the Market section in general deserve my credits.

 

I wasn't only talking about that, I was just saying that some people have become "lazy" once they get their staff rank (A select few have, once again, not you[I never knew you before you became staff])

 

Sometimes I wish moderator logs could be made public. You'd all get a true insight as to who does their jobs, and I think you would all be really surprised at the praise you have not given to those that deserve it.

 

Oh, how true this is.

 

Verts, why can't they be made public then? I think it would be great to actually see who should deserve all the praise.

Same here. A few of the people who are being labeled "inactive" actually hit 1k+ logs for the month, which is the direct opposite of "inactive"

 

Ehh, being active in the community is just as important for a moderator as being active in the mod logs and reports. But I would support mod logs being public.
Also, any conclusion on the vacation thread?

By the way, we're not bound to post in that unlike the one we have to in the SL, if the staff member wishes to then he/she can.

 

A Idea could moderator logs not be made public but information censored? that would be good so then everyone could see whats happening. Also I agree if your active in the mod logs you should also be active in the community as I feel that its good to be seen to interact with users like myself as it gives another element to the website but also makes people happy there is someone out there.

 

I would love to see them, I am not in anyway saying that what you said is false or anything. I am just curious.
Is the lack of "acitivity" that I posted about yesterday, due to lack of staff members? I see that we have 2 new mods, Blondi(Something for all) and Determinate(RS) hopefully having 2 new additions to the new will increase the shown activity.

 

Its not really a lack of activity; mod logs for most people are all pretty favorable and far above the minimum required. They have not dropped significantly over the past month.

What has changed, is due to free trade, we have seen an increase in members, which also means alot more scammers, which means alot more scam reports, spam reports, and of course disputes that come along with them. We still have fewer than we have had historically as well. So no, its not a lack of activity, its an increase on the strain. Adding a few mods here and there helps, but trying to discuss and vote on possible new staff is a slow process in and of itself as well.

 

It’s a bit difficult to give feedback on matters that we’re not exposed to. You can’t expect people to correctly assume certain information…so obviously the feedback is based on what they see. As mentioned earlier, the criticism might not directly be based on your work or lack thereof, but on your involvement in the community.

RsProd – a PRIME example of what a professional, graceful, mature moderator should act like. Extremely active, extremely kind, and never allows a situation to get out of hand unnecessarily. Answers pm’s quickly, deals with spam reports like a boss…honestly a great moderator.

PlzNate – The way you’ve handled certain recent situations is very impressive. You always stay calm, mature, and professional – while at the same time being fair and considering all factors. I respect your approach on matters and your level-headedness.

N4n0 – I know that you’ve been busy due to work and other matters, but I have no doubt that you’re putting in a lot of work and time into your position. You also are always proficient in your duties, and that reveals a very strong character and personality that is a great addition to the staff.

FireZ – I think everyone knows that you’re invaluable to this site. A large part of having a functional market is weeding out the scammers and continuously making sure the vaders are being taken care of. Some of these people just don’t know when to stop, and I bet it could get beyond tiring dealing with them…however, your determination is unending and it’s very admirable.

Karl - You're a kind, active guy that fulfills his duties as a global with dedication and professionalism. At the same time, you are a great part of the community, interacting often in IRC. Great job

Farcast – Congratulations on your promotion, you definitely deserve it!

Wulfspade1 – I love that you’re getting involved in scam reports, and you’ve shown that you’re very capable of dealing with them in a fair, firm, smart manner. You’re also very active – which is great to see from staff. I appreciate you getting involved in a section that many staff avoid

Blondi – Wow! I didn’t know who you were, but I just looked in the Report a Scammer section and you got through a lot. I hope you maintain this dedication and I’m sure you’ll be a great addition to staff and to Sythe safety

SMR – You’re a very kind and polite guy and I have a lot of respect for you. You answer questions very quickly and aim to resolve them as soon as possible. I like seeing you around more often, because I believe you’re a very valuable asset.

Finn – You’re a great asset to Sythe, and your involvement in the community is always constructive and intelligent. I’m glad to see that this involvement has been unwavering and continuous

Verts – I would be lying if I didn’t say that I think you handled last night’s irc situation in a very arrogant and condescending manner. Only a certain level of respect is earned by being in a position of power, but otherwise, you earn it by the way you treat regular members and handle situations. Because of this, a simple joke turned into a lot of drama that could’ve been avoided by simply being professional. Nevertheless, your recent activity has picked up and it’s great to see. From what I’ve heard, you do quite a bit behind the scenes and it can be difficult taking a lot of criticism when you do work that people don’t appreciate. But, the community only gains from your contributions behind the scenes, so thanks.

 

Definitely one of the better feedback posts I've seen in quite some time. I appreciate you taking the time to fill out as much as you have, and go in as much depth as you did with your reasons. Very well written.

 

Blondi - I can't express any feedback since you're a new moderator.
CSkiffingt1 - Surprisingly ignorant and arrogant. You honestly refuse to take in any sort of constructive criticism and refuse to make yourself a better moderator. The way you handle some things (such as in Suggestions/Feedback/Dispute forums) are handled very unprofessionally. I hope that you can change the way you write your posts so that you can do you job a little better. You're probably inactive right now since you just got out of school or whatever, but you usually have activity spurts, which is good. More activity would be a major plus as well.
Determinate - I can't express feedback since you're new.
Louis - It seems to me that you have a few good days of great moderating, but on most days, you seem to have disappeared. More activity would be great.
Pokemoners - You and I both know that we aren't the best of friends, but you're one of the more active mods. I still wish that you helped around more, but it seems that you're more concerned with the Market aspect of Sythe right now. Hopefully that won't get too much in your way.
Sacro - I honestly haven't seen you around much, so I can't really judge.
Sengira - Same as Sacro.
RsProd - Best Market Moderator of 2011. The way you handle things are amazing, professional, and you always are willing to lend a hand, whether it'd be onsite or off. Keep up the great work.
Wulfspade1 - You're very passionate about keeping the site going well and are very dedicated to making your section clean. The one thing that concerned me was the way you handled that infraction feedback thread. I hope you've taken the time to learn from your mistakes and to build up on it.




Clashfan -vI haven't seen you active at all.
Dalpra - You disappeared as well.
Farcast - Congrats on the promotion.
FireZ - I don't have to say anything about you lol.
Giddy - You've gone inactive as of lately, but I think I know why.
Karl - Dedicated, and a hard-worker. Only thing I'd recommend is helping FireZ more with those reports.

I haven't seen most Mods around because I don't post a lot but..
Rsprod: Very helpful mod. Answers my questions/pms very quickly and I just realized he responded to a lot of my Reported posts.
Firez: Got his msn and I have been asking him some questions the past couple of days. I'm sure I've annoyed him but he answers all of them so thanks to firez too
