I got this junker for free from a family friend and am now looking to make it into a decent gaming rig. Now I know almost next to nothing about good/bad PC specs so first off tell me how bad my current ones are and give me some upgrades, looking to spend under 800$.

    Here are the specs.

OS is some shitty version of Windows XP.

    Honestly, it's not worth upgrading.
$800 for just the tower will build a nice rig though.

Thanks for your useless post, a whole sentence must be really difficult to type if your too lazy to even give reasons why.

How is that even useless, I stated it's not worth upgrading, derp.
It's an old piece of shit, better reasons?
Processor is something like 6years old, probably using DDR ram, the graphics is intergrated.
    Happy? -.-

You basically want a whole new tower. Where are you from, and do you need an OS(Windows 7 64bit)?

I'm in Western Canada, sorry didn't mean to come off as a prick in my last post but I said I know next to nothing about this type of stuff, and yes I'd be getting Windows 7.

unless you like something about his computer, like the case I'd just recycle it.

One $800 will beat the hell out of your current computer, a website to use www.newegg.com cheap items, awesome customer service, for any reason can return within 30 days. Also, before you order DOUBLE check to see if everything is compatible! if you don't you will regret it.. lol.

Another thing, make sure you understand how to build a pc (look it up there on youtube) get a couple of extra fans, and heatsink.. Make sure to read customer reviews see if it gets a good review, if it doesn't don't waste your time.

I don't have the time at the minute to help put together a rig for you but two sites for Canada are ncix.com(or something like that) and newegg.ca
    And it's okay.

To the above post, most cases don't need extra fans, and the OP sounds like a nooby(sry but it's true. :p) he won't be OCing so stock/hyper 212+ would do for him.

That's not too bad, but are you willing to build yourself? :)

Sorry was busy for a couple days, birthdays and such. And how hard is building? Are there some tutorials or can I just sort of learn as I go.

That's k man, and look up videos on youtube, it's fairly simple.
Watch a few and if you think you can do it, you could either go to Gamespot Forums or steam forums and get them to give you a build(just say you need the tower + OS + where you are from) I'm too busy to help you right now, sorry.

Threw this together for you quickly.. I'm by no means an expert, but it ALMOST fits your budget (Grand total $820) and it's a pretty nice build. I'm sure noodles will be able to help out with a few tweaks, but other than that it works out nicely.

Assembled on newegg.ca, by the way.

I'll let you off of the hook since you don't know much about Sandy Bridge, he needs an P67 board to OC, H67 doesn't allowed it, and I'd switch the 6850 to a 460.

Change the GPU to this. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121391
If you plan on Overclocking switch to this motherboard. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130576
If you don't plan on Overclocking switch to this cpu & keep orig mobo from the above build http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115073
And switch to this RAM http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314

I was looking at that exact RAM! But I couldn't decide, and I've always gone to corsair for PSU + RAM so I went with that. Also a fan of ATI cards so that's why I went for the 6850. Thanks for the criticism, though.

a 2x4 set is better the 4x2, and the 460 is more powerful then the 6850 last time I checked.

    Gskill make excellent ram though.

Don't upgrade off a piece of junk, start from new, like everyone else is suggesting, you're going to be replacing every single part, so why keep a shitty case when you can go ahead and get a free case with a deal or one for like $50.

You can build a decent computer for $800 range. If you want to know exactly what to get, then give an exact amount of money you can use, along with preferences, I can help you decide what to buy. Others can help you too, and it's an easy learning experience putting it all together, not difficult and you learn a lot.

Again, Sorry guys been busy. I think I might just go ahead and get the PC I linked in an earlier post. Might even add some more RAM to it if I can customize it while ordering.

The motherboard will limit what you can do with your pc, i.e. what type of ram you can use, what graphics card etc.

Might be worth buying a pc online, or save yourself some cash and make one yourself, Ive only ever done it once and that was for my brothers Christmas box, it wasn't difficult you just need common sense really and if you wanting to get into gaming you need to know these things imo.

nvidia gtx 460 > ati 6850, I have a single 460 and its awesome (althought i have 4 pci express slots lol)

2 x 4 gb ram > 4 x 2 gb ram, 4 sticks would cause more strain on the memory controller and motherboard chipset. It would take slightly longer for the CPU to add and retrieve data from 4 sticks as opposed to 2.

    Hope it helps
