Is hunting wrong?

I have a large number of friends who hunt, and they all say that, for example, the deer population would get vastly out of hand, because they don't have a large number of predators, do to the very low population of wolves in the area (due to over-hunting in the early 1900's), and if they are not hunted, the population becomes very large, which increases risks of accidents from hitting deer, and other obvious negative side effects. They have hunting seasons because they need to kill off some of the excess population to maintain a healthy population size. You all say killing is wrong, but that's a common belief set upon us by society. We are nothing but highly intelligent animals ourselves, and animals kill animals, it's just the way of life, and the way it is, whether you like it or not. If we never hunted or never killed any other animals, we would be overrun with wild animals and shit would be more chaotic than you can imagine. A lot of people don't just kill for fun. A lot of people will kill a deer, get it's head mounted, and take the rest of it to a butcher to get the meat sorted and either sell it, or make it into jerky, steaks, etc to eat. It's really not as wasteful as you would think.

In most cases, there are laws (in the United States at least) that require you to salvage all the meat possible from a hunt. I don't really see anyone who eats meat as having a valid argument against hunters - wild game lives in its natural environment up to the point of slaughterhouses, whereas cattle are bred on a farm, and other animals such as chickens live in squalid conditions when they are raised for meat.

Additionally, as previously mentioned, hunting is regulated so that only the "excess" population of animals is harvested, not enough to endanger the species in the area.

 

imo you should only hunt if you can't buy ur own meat, and if you can afford to buy food you shouldn't hunt at all. I can't stand people that hunt just for the sake of hunting. it's just so stupid

Lets see, I hunt and I'm just gonna start off with the deer population back at my home is insane, I've hit multiple deer in my life and I've seen so many hit by cars.

Now lets talk about hunt if you can't buy your own food...Is it wrong to enjoy hunting, in my opinion if you're using the meat I see no problem. I personally love my Elk/Deer meat over beef. Now do you also find it wrong to shoot something that's destroying your property? I've shot a bear before after we got the ok from DNR to kill it.

I don't believe in hunting just to go shoot something and leave it, I've shot a bird out of season, on my own land and had it for supper, is that wrong? Not in my mind, we were hungry and decided to get a goose for supper.

i think it depends on where your hunting, its not that its a bad thing to do, but if the species you are killing is low in your area it might be considered a bad thing.

 

I think hunting is okay, if you are doing it to consume the meat as well. I do not approve of killing the animal as a trophy and not consuming the meat.

Also, as previously stated killing off excess animals, but not endangered .

Human are hunters , but also be hunted!

 

Kill to eat, not to kill.

HOWEVER: We as advanced beings can survive strictly off of foods that don't require the taking of a life, and be just as healthy, if not healthier.

However, as animals, if we need to kill a deer to eat, then we should have all liberty to kill that deer and eat.

 

its not a good thing, but its not a bad thing either. God created animals for us to eat.

 

hunting is awesome, I love the thrill of killing a defenseless animal with a hi-powered gun.
