With Vietballer, this makes not one, but TWO OMMs, no not regular users, long-time OMMs who have fallen to PM scams! No, seriously, Louis, "talking to you on msn", really? That's the pm you send? You don't even put your own msn in the message...anyway, I rant.

Bottom line, it seems like Louis isn't gonna be held responsible for this mistake either, and that the "it's your fault for not checking the msn" excuse will work yet again.

Suggestion: Punishment for "vague PMs" that lead to scams. Thoughts?

For OMMs, I agree that their rank should be reconsidered. Requiring OMMs to put their MSN at the top of all confirmation PMs should work.

I think it should just be a rule to have your msn linked to your profile.

It's not that hard for the idiot Lime Soda to check MSNs. Let's also consider that as Louis being staff and OMM his MSN is ALL over Sythe. If Lime Soda disregarded taking safety precautions which takes 20 seconds then the fault is on him.

Well I don't post my msn, because I don't need to be hacked like I have been a few times. Now, Pm's should have to have something related to the trade, say I was gonna trade with somone I pm them with "(email) talking on msn about trading for this and you requested a pm so here it is."

I always post the trade that I'm OMMing, my MSN, and part of the conversation. This is the safest way for all traders asking for a PM.

Louis could have just as easily checked Lime Soda's MSN to make sure he was pm'ing the right person

It's not too hard, just make the requirement that they put their MSN at the top of every confirmation PM. That should settle it. You cant enforce "more careful".

We have to realise most new members are not too intelligent when it comes to 'safe trading' and as OMM's, they should be more careful, and as a good member of the community, obviously it is not a requirement, but i'd expect them to look out for the sythe community, from scams. Just by posting a Msn in a PM, is not much to ask for and can prevent many scams. support

His OMM rank should be reconsidered, however, it's also partly lime soda's fault. Events like these just make me realize how important it is to really make sure you know who you're talking to.

When PMing for confirmation, I believe it's always best to copy and paste part of the conversation.

Why did Louis PM him anyways, as he wasn't talking to him?

This. A paste of part of the conversation will foil this scam 99% of the time, with the 1% being if the victim doesn't even read the pm.

I don't get how not one but two omms have fallen for this scam. Have you guys honestly not experienced it? Its almost a daily routine for me

Maybe punishment is going too far, but at least some kind of sticky to stress this scam. It is definitely becoming more popular.

It's a set up scam. The person talking to Louis pretends to be someone else on sythe. The scammer gets Louis to pm ANOTHER user. Meanwhile the user that gets pmed is also in a conversation with the scammer. Therefore the scammer can play off that he is Louis since to the victim getting a pm stating he is getting talked to by Louis is enough proof.

He is still a trusted OMM, he simply fell for this set up because apparently not enough people know about it including our OOMs.

The person that contacted me told me the name of the person I was supposedly trading with actually. The person claiming to be lime soda was slow on msn so he answered my question on what his sythe name was. I'm not pinning this on him though. I do agree that it should be a requirement to establish without a doubt you are talking with who you are talking to. I am also truly sorry for allowing such a thing to happen, I was never exposed to this type of scam in all my time at Sythe and had I been, things would be different. I respect any decision that is made as a result of my actions.

I take it Lime Soda has/will receive(d) a full refund?

And aren't OMMs people that are chosen for not just their honesty, but also their knowledge of everything that can go wrong, and how to avoid it.
I was hoping at least all OMMs would know these things in advance already >.>

So you're expecting all OMM's to know all types of scams possible with thousands of different trades? Even if they have never encountered them before?

OT: It is a bad mixup, Louis should be held partially accountable but the blame should not fully be put on him.

This is a very common scam attempt. Considering you have been an OMM on the site for years I personally think you should personally be held accountable for allowing such a scam to occur.

Every PM I send has in the title: "Requested PM: (then my MSN)"

In the message box, I copy/paste in the entire conversation with the user. This will prevent any problems from occurring and any possible impersonation attempts from succeeding.
