Is the devil really bad?

As the story goes, God sent Satan, an angel; to walk amongst all of the sinners. Satan and God had arguments, and God thought to believe Satan evil.

I don't understand why people seem to think that the devil is a bad person.

He keeps the evil and the damned to spend eternity in the forbidden place.

Is the devil really bad, or just a watch guard.

Atheists only welcome if they would like to give an opinion on the question. I do not want anyone posting, "It don't matter, cuz god or the devil arnt real yo."

Well you can't really define "good" or "bad" as a solid thing, as good and bad are merely opinions; so it's an unanswerable question.

 

The devil is the binary opposite of the ideological version of God.

God is mainly seen as an all-powerful being that does good.
The Devil is mainly seen as an all-powerful being that does bad.

While both only exist in the abstract, both are on different ends of the spectrum.

I assume we are speaking of The Devil rather than Satan.

If this is the case;

The Devil is believed in many religions and cultures to be a powerful, supernatural entity that is the personification of evil and the enemy of God and humankind.

The personification of evil sounds "bad" to me.

And isn't The Devil is damned to Hell and doesn't keep his minions there by choice?

 

Well basically the Devil thought he was better then god so he left. He is bad in ways by trying to make you sin like stealing ect. (if you beleive in god). But I guess it's a good thing that he did that to be as you said a watch guard for the bad people

 

The Devil and Satan are the same person. Doesn't matter what religion is which, or what is what. They're the same person.

 

If i remember right, in most religions he betrayed God. I'm pretty sure there's no debate whether Satan is evil or not.

It is also said in most religions that he is the root of all evil, the main cause.

 

Certainly, most religions do uphold the belief that Satan has a large amount of influence of evil on humans, which causes them to commit sins. Although, I don't know if he is considered "the god of evil" or just some guy who lives in hell and makes it hell for those who go there.

 

I'd just like to point out that the concept of the Christian devil evolved over a long stretch of time. In early forms of Judaism, for example, Satan was merely Yahweh's servant who he sent to tempt people (see the story of Job); as the religion evolved, however, he became conflated with various other figures (such as the serpent in the garden of Eden), and it was through this conflation that the devil of first-century Judaism emerged (and it was this devil that was adopted by Christianity). It was only later (notably with Milton's Paradise Lost) that the idea of the devil as an angel called Lucifer came to be, as the verse often cited to support this idea is actually referring to a Babylonian king iirc.

That all being said, you have to clearly define what you mean by the terms devil, and Satan, since their meanings have varied greatly over time.

 

I don't get it, if God was as powerful as everyone is saying he is why can't he destroy the devil?
And if God created the world, doesn't taht mean he craeted the devil ?
In my opinion if you believe in a God you shouldn't believe in the devil because it only contradicts your religion.

Religions include plentiful of contradictions and paradoxes.

Only excuse religions have is their "faith" that everything that occurs, occurs for a reason because of God. Senseless beliefs in my opinion.

 

What I believe is, God leads the people to the right path and Devil is there to distract them and lead them astray. I agree with the above quoted, God created Devil and God has the power to destroy it. But Devil is there just to distract and lead people astray.

 

I don't get how Satan could backchat God... But, as brave as this Satan is, he's "suppose" to mislead people from doing Good things.

1. Reason "GOD" doesn't destroy the devil, is so humans can be tempted to sin and he can pick his loyal/good people to go with him.
2.Yes he did create 'The Devil' but he wasn't 'Evil' when he was created.
3.If you believe in god, you must believe in Satan. Because without Lucifer then people wouldn't see a reason to believe in god. It's like saying this, just imagine, people being happy all the time. Joy wouldn't feel so good if it weren't for pain. Same rules apply to why there is a god and why there is evil.

ON TOPIC:
Lucifer's strongest weapon is for people to believe he does not exist/isn't evil. That way people won't think they're doing anything wrong, and they won't feel guilty.

Don't insult him for giving his opinion on it besides your knowledge is just as basic from what I've seen.

The devil wasn't created for this reason though, Lucifer was an angel, so he obviously wasn't created for this purpose, however if he was (going on the whole idea that god is omniscient) then god would already know how someone would act if tested.
This defeats the whole purpose of the devil and god.

In reality god just made the devil so those wonderful church going folk have a reason to fill the collection plate.

As said, if god is omniscient then he would be made to be evil.

Then why the heaven on earth after armageddon?
Why would people not see a reason to believe in god? It would be contradictory of the religion if the only reason to believe in the higher power is if there is an opposing side that is spiteful and the higher power is "loving".

Or just maybe they will follow their own morality, (god forbid that day every comes >.>)
