What is religion to you?

What I don't understand about religion is their hypocritical point of view. When they say "Nothing can come from nothing or create itself" I always ask, what created god? They always say "He created himself" or "He was always there" I don't understand people like that, they are truly brainwashed.

 

I see what you mean. Yes, if religion was as pure as its suppose to be and its followers lived and acted how they were suppose to, it would be a beautiful thing. But that's rarely the case

 

Religion, to me, personally, is like the easter-bunny.

Religion today is a remnant of primitive man's attempt at explaining the world and justifying death. Given that terrorism today is largely the result of religion, I view all forms of religion with dislike - I do not dislike religious people based solely on their religion; I do dislike the religions themselves.

I know i'm probably going to get "trolled" for this; but my honest opinion about religion would have to be like this;

I for one, don't believe in "God", or any "God" for that matter. No matter what the religion is. I am not atheist, I believe when you die. You die. That's just the way it is. I don't believe in heaven, hell, etc. Religion doesn't bother me, But i'd rather not take part in any religious ceremonies, activities, etc.

 

Now I am not a religious person at all.

To me, religion is nothing but bullshit made-up by someone ages ago, and then stretched to an unpredictable truth of nonsense over time. Kind of like a rumor.

Everyone is to their own opinion but what makes me dislike religion is the way that most not ALL religious people can't see an athiest's point of a view but an athiest like me respects their opinion and is truely intrested in what they believe in. But if I were to say my opinion it would instantly just be wrong to them and they wouldn't care what you had to say.

 

To me religion is a pseudoscience. I respect others' beliefs, but I myself don't see how you can totally be committed to it. I basically agree completely with gds08. I live in Texas, where the majority of people who live here are consevatives and Christians. If I was more vocal in my disbelief in god, many would definitely call me ignorant and tell me I'm going to Hell. Religion has no connotation to me. It has done some harm and some good. I feel like it has created many problems that would not have occured if religion didn't exist, but then again religion has boosted a lot of people's hope and drive to live and to achieve. That is probably why it has lasted so long even though our society continues to change.

Why does no firmament exist, though it is supposed to according to the cosmology of the ancient Hebrews (Gen. 1.6-7)? How could the plants have survived, given that the sun had not yet been created (Gen. 1.11)? Why does the author of Genesis apparently think that the moon gives off its own light (Gen. 1.16)? Why does the author of Genesis think that the sun is not a star (Ibid)? Who was god talking to (Gen. 1.26)? How did all of this happen under 10,000 years ago when we know for a fact that the universe is billions of years old (Gen 2.4)? How can god walk around in a garden (Gen. 3.8)? Why doesn't god know where Adam is (Gen. 3.9)? Did snakes have legs at one time (Gen. 3.14)? Again, who is god talking to (Gen 3.22)? Who was Cain afraid of, given that the only people alive at the time were him, this parents, and possibly a few unnamed siblings (Gen. 4.14)? Was incest okay at this time, or were there other humans (Gen. 4.17)? Was Adam originally a hermaphrodite (Gen. 5.2)? How the hell did these people live to be so old (Gen. 5.4-32)? Who were the "sons of god" who did it with the humans (Gen 6.2)? Who were these giants, and where is the evidence that they existed at all (Gen. 6.4)? How can god feel regret, given that he is perfect (Gen. 6.6)? How could Noah have had the time to find sufficient food for all the animals on the ark (Gen. 6.21)? Why does god tell Noah to take seven of every clean animal when he just told him to take two of every animal, and how does Noah know what a clean animal is, given that they were not defined until the time of Moses (Gen. 7.2)? How did Noah live to be so old (Gen. 7.6)? How did all these animals cooperate so well (Gen. 7.9)? Had it never rained in the thousands of years prior to Noah (Gen. 9.14)? Why does Noah curse Canaan when it was Ham who saw him naked (Gen. 9.25)? How is it that the entire earth spoke a single language, when we had Egyptian texts from this time period (Gen. 11.1)? Why was god so frightened about a bunch of primitives trying to build a big tower with brick and mortar (Gen. 11.6)? For a third time, who was god talking to (Gen. 11.7)?

Anyways we don't believe in superheroes, so why believe in God? If anything, God is infinitely more powerful (and therefore more unbelievable) than superheroes.

You mean the religion thats only supported by its own book is the only one to check out to be correct? If you believe this then every religion is correct, and if you follow logic then it is also inherently also incorrect, because then you must also believe that every book against the bible is true because obviously facts and proof aren't important.

Concerning Gods "Omnipotence and Omniscience"
-Why is god ever surprised?
-If god is omniscient then why wouldn't he already have known humans would fail him and thus free them of sin before they had committed it?
-Why does he need to test humans if he would already know who would fail him?
-Why ask Lucifer why he would not kneel if this was already known to him? Why create him at all if he already knew he would fall?

Paul
Why was god so willing to present so much evidence to Paul a non-believe, or in todays explanation, an atheist. Yet now there is nothing? God came down to Paul himself so he would believe, but today we can't get as much as a hello from him.

Well in one section is says Jacob, yet in another it says Hell.

Adam
Genesis 2:15 says Adam was created to keep and tend the garden of eden (this goes along with my first set of questions) and he only created Eve as a result of Adam being unable to find a suitable companion from the animals in the garden. So why would her creation even have to come after if he knew Adam would be lonely and wouldn't accept an animal?

Sin of killing and sins in general.
Why have sins if the only way to gain access to heaven is to accept Jesus? A murderer, rapist, child molesting, greed filled, atheist could make it into heaven as long as before he dies he repents and accepts jesus.
So why do they even exist?

Adam and Jesus
Adam- A finite being with finite actions, yet his actions caused every human being ever to be born to be filled with natural sin and be automatically damned unless forgiven.

Jesus-God himself with supposed infinite power and infinite knowledge, yet you must accept him and a specific story of him (because there is so many different versions) to be saved.

If you've never heard of Adam, you're still damned. If you've never heard of Jesus but you've heard of Adam you're still damned. The only way for Jesus's actions to save you if you've heard of it and believe it.

Why are the actions of a human more effective and all encompassing than God's?

How could there be no sin in the presence of god, if 1.) He was talking directly to Satan in his dealings about Job. 2.) He is the image of jesus was surrounded by sinned humans, and 3.) You can see Hell from Heaven.

And ofcourse one of the most common questions, why did god need to sacrifice himself to himself so he would forgive his creations for the punishment he himself laid upon them?

 

Religion is a way of life for many. And it's hated by many as well. You follow your own beliefs however you want. All religions are based off the same thing, life.

 

Too me it's a good set of rules to live under, however it's a flawed cause.
