Moderator--> College Apps

If you were a moderator in Runescape or Sythe, would you put that on your College Application as a leadership position?
I'd put:
Moderator of a Website/Forum with over 260,000 members

 

If you're applying to a tech school, then sure, if not, then probably not.

Colleges don't look highly on virutal jobs or leadership. Especially for a game. If you apply to a school or the college of computer science, then that may help your application.

But if you were to apply to Business or Engineering, then no.

Don't dare put this as a 'leadership' position. Leadership is the ability to motivate people to accomplish a task. If anything, spending hours on a virtual site like this inhibits leadership skills.

 

I think it'd be better as a sign of maturity and professionalism than as a sign of leadership.

No, it won't bolster your chances at all. Depending on the what you exactly you put, it might inhibit it, and it most likely will. Chances are, they're going to go through your forum profile (if your a viable candidate), they're bound to dig things up you'd wish be left buried.

 

I think it was Pokemoners who started a thread similar to this when he was applying for college a while back. I personally wouldn't add this in, it's a website that encourages cheating and rule-breaking etc, not a great look if they chose to dig around.

 

I honestly have never thought about it...but the way you put it sounds really legit. I dont see a problem as long as you dont put the website name. As for being a runescape Player Mod ABOSLUTELY NOT.

 

They would probably rip the application due to stupidity. By putting sythe as a leadership position, you WILL be denied. Sythe is a blackmarket which encourages cheatting and rule breaking [as what JohnK said]. That is not so professional and will ruin your chances of being accepted to the certain college, which you are applying to.

Colleges almost never actually check in depth your assertions. I was told that my friend (who got into Harvard) put that he was a surgical assistant in a research lab at a University Medical center, which made it seem much more impressive than that he shadowed someone for a week doing the stuff that he/she didn't want to do....
I obviously wouldn't mention it was a gaming site, or the like, I'd simply put it was a discussion forum consisting of many things, including a philosophical section, real life trade section, and help for people experiencing problems with online applications.

 

Never! Colleges could honestly care less about this stuff, they look at grades, test scores and social activities. Besides there is no way to ever prove you were ever a mod on here, or what it really means.
