I personally don't mind it when people get things wrong, as long as I can still understand them. If they go too over the top it annoys me, things like l33t speak or what ever it's called just make me want to destroy my computer.

Most posts on Sythe are rather short and most of the time do not need a lot of punctuation, but I feel it's needed in order to create a structured sentence or paragraph.

What are your opinions on spelling a grammar?
Do you think spelling and grammar are important?

yes spelling and grammar are very important even if you talk with your friends online , or on a forum and so on. I would write better if i knew english better. I`m only making mistakes because my english pretty much sucks:)

I don't really mind it if they're not native, since you can't really blame them for that. But when someone who continuously makes mistakes (even if a little) and acts like he or she is the god of English, yeah, I feel like breaking a bone or two.
Or you give too many gaps.

I can barely spell if my life counted on the 3 languages I know. But I know how to perfect, schools these days don't stress on spelling even at very early age. They just correct you or ignore you and move right along. Everyone struggles with grammar and their own native language. It's not easy.

It also annoys me too.. Even if it might not mean anything to spell and have good grammar when talking online, it is important since, due to some errors, your point might not be expressed properly. Me, I always read over my writing for any errors. Besides, I'm still young and got a lot to learn which is the reason to all my mistakes even after reviewing them.

I don't usually use perfect punctuation while typing online, but always use the correct spelling and form of a word. It does sometimes bother me when other people don't. Just makes them seem stupid.

As long as it's not a legitimate paper, then it should be fine. However, the people that piss me off are the ones that try to correct, incorrectly, or fail in some other way.
Example of a correction that I approve of:

Spelling is an important part of human intelligence, and it especially matters if you spell something wrong...and someone takes offense to that.

It is important, if everyone will write in a L33T language, it will not be good.

It only matters in professional situations, typing an essay, school work, etc. Other than that, it doesn't really matter, but what bothers me is when people go out of their way to type words incorrectly, what's the point?

Let people spell and write how they wish. Personal if someone comes off as a person who overuses slang terms and has very bad grammar they seem less intelligent. Of course this is not always the case.

Yes they are important in my opinion. With good grammar and spelling, people will respect you more compared to bad grammar and spelling. Even I have bad grammar and spelling but I try my best to sound professional. It's all about yourself, whether you want to present yourself nice or bad to others.

    a lot*

    Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Spelling and grammar is important if you want others to think you're even somewhat intelligent. If someone can't even construct a complete sentence, it really devalues what they say. I'm not saying you have to use perfect grammar, spelling, and punctuation, but when there are blatantly obvious spelling errors in someone's post, it tells me they don't really care much about what they're saying, so why should I?

    Sorry, neither could I ;).

I personally think that good use of grammar and spelling are important, but I also think it's understandable if one does mistakes, so long as they strive to correct said mistakes. If we want to create a universal language where we can understand each other perfectly, then emphasis should be put on correctness. :)

Language serves a singular purpose: communication. If the proper message is conveyed, I could care less.

For those of you saying it makes them seem as if they're unintelligent, it only seems like that because you've let it become stigmatized to you. You're passing judgments when you shouldn't be; that's not the person conveying the message's fault. That's a fault of yours.

It just gets very annoying when someone cannot spell correctly, and place proper sentences. I understand however If English is not your first language.

Who cares? It's the internet, not English class. I prefer shorthanded words to basically give the meaning of a word so I don't waste so much of my time. Typing every word with the correct spelling and grammar is just too mundane of a task.

You got me on the first one, but your second correction is incorrect, or at best optional. Considering the three terms I listed are separate from one another, I like to use a comma, however, either way is technically correct. The only time I would not use a comma is if I was saying something that could be identified as a group like the following:

I went to buy bread, bananas, milk and cookies, crackers, and peanut butter and jelly.

Typing correctly is too mundane for you? Or just too hard...

If you use shorthand versions of words all the time, you come off as illiterate and unintelligent. if this is wht seems to b the best way to type then u shud consider learnin proper eng
