can you get hacked over irc?

i found this mid level hybrid team that risks 100m+ and they really want me to join the irc but i dont know why they want me to join it so bad

They can ddos you, if they know your ip, but I thought irc didn't provide ip? Unless they know a higher up, I forgot what its called, an "officer"?

They can't get your IP from joining an IRC Channel.

To be safe be sure to not click any links in their channel as they good phish you easily for your acccount by either having you download a RAT or drag you to a site just to get your IP and bs you.

A good site I use is www.hidemyass.com which is a proxy website.

Just copy and paste any links in IRC in the web browser and you'll be safe.

Not unless you accept files. But they are able to obtain your IP fairly easily, so if you stake them big, you might randomly "disconnect".

 

This is correct. The OP of the channel cannot get your IP, but the people that inforce the rules can apparently. Beware of IP grabbing pictures, and which ventrillo you use also as admins their can get your IP also, and if your risking 100m+ an you get DDoS'd its gf.

 

Just wanted to say how stupid you guys are.

Every time you join a irc channel it shows your ip adress. The only way to stop it is to set mode -x or +x i forget which one.

Anyways im owner of a channel and just stumbled upon here because my computer wont start now and was wondering maybe because some idiot on irc.

The admin of this game i play was telling people to rape somones ip address in my crew im guessing he meant a dos attack or something which is really immature since hes the admin of the game but few days later my computer wont start and the internet connectovity light in the back is off and randomly turns on for a bit.. But im on my ipad using wifi so i obviously have internet

 

Most IRC networks already automatically add mode +x when you connect, and even so, no one on IRC could make it so your computer won't start. And even so, if you were getting DDoS'ed, your Wifi wouldn't work on your iPad either.
