How long do you think RuneScape will last?

probably not. I thought they always wanted to keep it free (well f2p) and in browser?

 

As long as there are players that buy member RS will continue.

 

This is an idea I was going to introduce as it sounds like it's possible. With an increasing member database and decreasing amount of ideas left to put in Runescape, I think Jagex will either call it quits with updates with Runescape, create a possible Runescape 3?, or which could be very interesting, introduce a Game Pack (Such as how WoW does) and create a whole game area into the game.

I honestly don't think Jagex will just terminate the game, I think once they see they are Losing more than they are making they will either up the costs for membership or terminate it then.

 

im pretty sure jagex makes more money from f2p because of all the ads they see when they log in versus the members that only pay $6 a month and see 0 ads (well the homepage counts).

 

They won't stop until the money stops coming in.

I could see it going the way Ragnarok online went.

Massive userbase which dwindled and eventually more or less left. Nowadays all you see is a few people in a private server here and there.
My guess is 2-3 years.

 

It really depends on Jagex and if they make better updates or shittier updates, But I can see it lasting 3-5 years or so. This is my opinion, Nothing more~

 

Thats called rs3 lol then all of you guys will be upset when rs2 [ the rs as we know it now] is thrown away just as rs1 [aka rsc] was when rs2 came out.

 

I think it will last quite a few years before they will even have to consider shutting down any servers.

Having said that, the game has lost a TON of players. Compared to how many people online around 2007, in the game's prime, it's weird to see only ~100k people online versus 250k+ back then. I think another problem is a lot of new players aren't interested and just don't come back.

It's truly become a pointless game to invest time and money into, in my perspective. Nearly anyone with a 2k+ total has most likely botted their stats. Staking and pking are infested with glitches and ddos attacks. The majority of players take part in dicing, which is one of the most unbelievably stupid fads runescape has ever had.

The game hit it's prime in 2007 with barrows armor and whips. Weapons like chaotic mauls, d claw specs, and the d bow spec absolutely ruined the game. You should NEVER be able to KO another maxed player with one hit on any spec.. PKing (especially) will turn into rushing, and that takes the LEAST skill.

Also, for me, I feel that Jagex lost its touch with new skills. I remember when runecrafting and slayer were added back in the day. Now THOSE were legit skills. Farming was decent, but totally useful. But seriously.. summoning? Dungeoneering?? CONSTRUCTION??? Not to take anything away from anyone who has 99's in these... I don't know how you do that without dying of boredom. What is a players' motivation to get a 99 in skills like construction? It is near impossible to profit in anyway from construction, and and there is very little reward for having a "nice" house.

When we trade accounts and sell RSGP for cash, we only make it worse. Just my opinion, it's already a ruined game though.

 

I think the game would just be constantly upgraded to keep up with the rest of the MMO market. But it would be kind of awkward to abruptly end a game like RS anyway, with people dedicating months upon months of play time and all. But then again, I can't really picture RS existing in the distant future, as I'm used to the console world where a game is released, played then virtually forgotten. I'm surprised it's still going now, after so many years.

 

Until it looses popularity. I doubt jagex would shut down immediately. It would hurt lots of nerds and no-lifers...

I don't believe Jagex will completely shut down the servers anytime soon, about 4 years in my opinion. I think what will really kill it is losing players, with some of these updates it is starting to look liek WoW instead of rs but new players might like it. The rs population will go down like 30k in the next year. Just my opinion

Trust me, Runescape won't be shutting down anytime soon.

They make a LOT more money than they make out.

 

They get tons of Millions irl with rs. Why should they close it? Because many people bot in the game, scam and the RSGP ingame worth goes down? It doesnt involve the amount of p2p members. More and more people are buying member ship so rs wont go down. Their graphics will steadly become better, and when those graphics are totally outdated they will start doing something first person like or stuff like that...

 

As long as Jagex keeps making money, they will keep RS up and running.
