VPN HELP!

Would truly appreciate any help on the below!

I'm currently trying to use a VPN on board my ship at work (I work for a cruise company). It seems to be blocking VPN access, unless I use a protocol like OpenVPN - TCP which at least allows me to connect. Even then once I connect, it still seems to block traffic (I think because its blocking servers starting with Express VPN server addresses?). I have a dedicated IP, but cannot connect to it with the above protocol, so it won't connect in the first place because they can detect its VPN traffic?

Any ideas on how I can get around this? I just wanna be able to game on board for the next 9-10 weeks (they block runescape on the net) I could try a different provider, maybe a small one with servers that are unknown and potentially not on the VPN servers ban list?

 

Is the Runescape website blocked or logging on to the actual game? Those are two completely different things. Also, have you considered a proxy instead of a VPN?

 

Have you tried other VPN's. Tbh I have a hit or miss time with OpenVPN sometimes.

 

So the cruise company provides a "Social media only package" and what is strange is, it lets me log into the game (I have to open the client on full internet), but then it instantly disconnects and won't maintain a connection with the game. What are the main differences between a VPN and a proxy? I don't want the company to know, and its definitely a block from their side, if that changes anything.

I've tried expressVPN on all different options and also Hotspot shield currently. Kinda tentative to keep buying VPN subscriptions for them to not work

 

Worth noting, I used to use a VPN to log into the game and play, but they seem to have blocked VPN's somehow now on the social package. Just wondering if there's a way around it mainly.

 

Oooohhhh. You should have started with this. No matter what you do you can not bypass this as they lock out certain ports require to access sites, games and other products. Chatting and messages run off like a few ports (I believe like less then 5) and they completely block any traffic on the remaining ports.


Messaging over the internet, the key ports are TCP ports 25, 465, and 587 for SMTP (email) and TCP ports 110 and 143 for receiving emails (POP3/IMAP). Thanks Google!

 

Yea you should have started with what restrictions are on the internet package.
It's turbo restricted because it low-bandwidth SATCOM (I assume).
I think Jay is spot on with this one. There may be another work around but I'd ask AI.
Maybe someone more versed in networking can help out as well.

 

The social media package includes all things social media, images, videos, messaging, they simply restrict the sites you can use - not the actual physical data you can send/receive. So they don't just use the ports you listed above, because its restricted to social media, not to messages.

I'll have a play around with some other VPN's and see. People seem to have success with less well known VPN's, from what I'm finding out at the minute.
