You internet has a set amount of throughput,

    probably about 1.5-3 Mb down.

To Ddos You someone basically sends large packets to your ip. They send so many of those large packets that it fills up your total throughput.

You no longer have any extra throughput for yourself as someone else is filling it all up with incoming traffic.

You can configure your router to start discarding wan pings if you like, but I don't think it will fix the problem.

If you called your cable company about the problem and they looked at it and did not see patterns of a ddos attempt on your connection you are most probably not being ddossed.

Run some secure programs and see if your computer has any virus or something like that, otherwise contact a service support. They'll probably be helpful.

'DDoS = distributed denial-of-service attack is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of person or persons to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely.'

    It's not a virus.

ddos, or distributed denial of service attack, is when a group of people send you a bunch of packets, making it impossible for you to do anything internet related, since all your bandwith is working on the incoming packets. You MIGHT be getting just DoS'd which is one person. DDoS is when a lot of people do it at once to take down bigger sites. For you? I think you just have a shitty internet connection.
