    Memory Upgrade

I just wanted to clarify something before I go ahead and do it

I am currently running an intel i5 750 quad core processer @2.67ghz and 2x2GB DDR3 1333mhz RAM. As you can see by the following screenshot, my physical memory is being maxed out before my CPU usage (Running 4 rsbots bots, wow, internet, skype, msn etc).

My mobo has 4 RAM slots, am I right in saying if I were to buy 4 more GB of the same RAM, my PC would be able to run more processes and more smoothly? Right now, my physical memory is staying around 93-94% while my CPU usage is around 50-54%.

Just wanted to make sure I'm right before I go ahead and buy the RAM.

It would certainly help, though I doubt you would get double the performance. Couldn't hurt though, 2x2gb kits are only like $40-$50 now, or less if you get it during a really good sale.

I wasn't expecting double the performance, just improved ^^ I know usually peoples processors max out before their RAM does, so I just wanted to clarify that adding RAM would actually make a difference.

EDIT: I can get the exact same 2x2GB that I bought before for £31 GBP ($49) that's a pretty damn good price for the UK ^^ Thanks

It will make a difference in the amount of applications (or bots) you can use at one time but it won't likely make anything extra fast.

If you're using all of your RAM, buy more.

What you said under the picture is pretty much correct. More processes, more smoothly, with slightly better performance (don't expect it to be very noticeable.)

I get the occasional minor lag spike on WoW when running 4-5 bots.

Would it also make my PC run slightly quieter? When I run 4-5 bots and wow there is definitely a noticeable CPU temp change and noise change.

Well, the sound is just you're fan speeding up because the temperatures are getting hotter. Usually it's because of the CPU temp which is based on how much you're using your proc, which the RAM wouldn't really affect since it doesn't process anything.

There is, however, a chance that your PC fan will get louder because more hardware crammed into that box equals more heat being put out.

If you want to have a quieter machine, I suggest investing in a new fan and heatsink, or water cooling. CoolerMaster makes some good fans and sinks that can be almost unnoticeable at times. Cleaning the dust out of it will also help with the temperatures, thus causing the fan to slow down.

I am not confident in setting up a water cooling system, as I have never done it and it looks quite tricky.

My PC is not very dusty (only had it about 8/9 months and I open it fairly regularly). I have 4 or 5 120mm case fans, and the standard heatsink that came with my intel i5 750.

What heatsink would you recommend, preferably from www.ebuyer.com and under about £50, and how much do you think it would quieten my PC?

P.S My CPU maxes out at about 65C on full load, is that too high or safe?

65c is fine. Doubling your ram will give your computer a large all around performance boost when you're using more than 4gb, and do pretty much nothing when you're using less.

Funny, I did some research and just about everyone recommends the Coolermaster Hyper 212 for an intel i5 as a replacement for the stock cooler.

I'll ensure that it fits my case (NZXT Hades, I'm pretty sure it will) and probably purchase it alongside another 2x2GB in about a weeks time.

    Thanks!

EDIT: Running MW2 and 4 bots and my memory has maxed out again (well, 94%) Definitely getting that extra 2x2..
