    Heellppp!! :(

    okay im fed up..

basically i have my 'main' computer and a new one im building.

my main HDD ***king crashed... so im stuck with TWO non working computers.

So i order a new HDD 320 gb SATA, i have a DVD drive (not RW or anything) tried installing a..'free' version of Windows 7 i know it works i read comments people left burned it at 2x speed.

computer will load it i enter the correct info such as x86 for 32 bit which is correct, but says files are missing/corrupted. So okay disk isn't working plan b... usb drive.. from my step moms laptop. loaded it on hers it recgonized it (not in boot mood but at desktop so i figured itd work) so i get back to my moms plug it in set boot sequence as according, NTRL (or something) IS MISSING CTR+ATL+DEL to restart no other options.

I have tried everything i can think of. im really about to blow this shit to helll and tell my mom to go buy me neww stuff.. (kidding im not a brat :p)

but anyways some info that ik.

    RAM is correct
    IDE dvd drive
    SATA HDD
    ASUS/MSI mobo's
Yes i can get to bootloader etc, boot sequences are correct.

    please heeellppp!

NTRL(or something, i forgot too what it's called, but I know what you're talking about) is missing error can be caused by something as simple as leaving a disk in the drive while trying to boot.

You could also get a SATA to USB adaptor and plug the hd into another computer and use that to install the OS. They'll run you about 15-20 bucks.

OR, you can just try a linux distro?

OR, you can try reburning at 1x speed incase that's what caused a problem. (idk what drive you have but one of mine always messes up if I go too fast.)

ALSO, why would you buy a 320gb sata when you can get a WD 2TB for like $90? I remember paying $150 for a 60 gb drive.

Well, 30 for a used 320 or 90 for 2 tb. The 2tb is a better deal by far, and new. But I guess if you didn't have the money it wouldn't be a big deal.

Well, without a computer there's not much you can do honestly..

On a side note, I have never gotten an OS to install from a USB drive. I know you can do it, but it never seems to work for me and it's just quicker to hook the HD up to my main pc directly.

Do you currently have a HD with an operating system on it? for either computer? If so, just install the other HD into whatever computer will work along with the one you want to put the new OS on, then just boot from the first disk, mount the OS, and start the installation from there.

If you can't boot from the disk or the usb drive, and you don't have a HD with an operating system on it, and you don't have access to another working computer, there's not really anything you can do besides trying everything a second time.

If the pins are broken, the HD isn't going to work anymore.

Unless you know how to solder them back into place, given that enough of the pin is sticking out and you don't mess up.

Ok so you mean that the CD will boot but tells you that its missing files on the disk?

And the USB drive.. well that problem youre talking about is because your BIOS isnt actually finding the boot files on your USB drive. You need to make your flash drive bootable.

    Follow:

Open the flash drive, move everything off of it. if its yoru win7 installation, put it in a folder somewhere safe (Desktop)

    2. Open cmd prompt (Start > Run > cmd)

    3. Type DISKPART, then LIST DISK, and note what it outputs for your USB DRIVE ( EXAMPLE: if your USB drive is 2.0 gigs then look for the "Disk #" that has a "size" of 2000MB or 2GB)

We're going to say your USB Drive is Disk 1*******

    4. Type these commands (Provided your USB drive is DISK 2!!)
    SELECT DISK 1
    CLEAN
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    SELECT PARTITION 1
    ACTIVE
    FORMAT FS=NTFS
    ASSIGN
    EXIT

    5. MINIMIZE the command prompt, dont close it.

    6. Insert that Windows 7 disk you made into your CD Drive. (I will assume your cd drive letter is "D:")

    7. Maximize your CMD prompt and type D: CD BOOT, then type CD BOOT. Now, type BOOTSEC.EXE /NT60 H: (Where H: is your USB DRIVE, again)

    8. Copy contents on win7 installation BACK to the thumb drive now, and reboot.

    9. Access BIOS settings and select whatever your BIOS provides to boot with a USB drive. (It may be called FDD, or Usb Drive, etc)

    10. save and exit the BIOS and it should boot.

    Hope this solves yoru problem

EDIT> yes you COULD fix that IDE hdd, you need to find the model num,ber of the HDD, and lookup on google for a control board for it. and the proper screwdriver. 15-20$ at the most

    EDIT 2!!!!
MAKE SURE you do this in Vista or Windows 7!! XP doesnt have BOOTSEC.EXE. looking for a fix

    Heellppp!! :(

For the windows fix thing, what download would i need?

and i downloaded a program (sorry i forgot what it was) but it was designed for XP computers (whiich is what my step moms laptop is) and it loaded all the correct files, correct format and it was trying to do the boot thing.. but didnt work lol.

I tried what you said but windows xp won't show the usb flash drive when i type diskpart (states owner info) then list disk (lists her main HDD and only it)

and also, could you explain more about how to fix the ide? what skills are required to do it? (any soldering or anything else)

Thanks to everyone helping me out; much appreciated!

THIS tool will set up your flash drive so that you can boot off of it. download and use it on your moms laptop and set up the flash drive with it. After yoiu use that tool, put the win7 install files on the drive and youre set.

No experience neccessary, you just need to have the right screwdriver. On the bottom of the IDE harddrive is a motherboard (ie Control Board) you simply need to unscrew it and replace it. takes 3 minutes.

    And also youre welcome
