NYS Senate PASSES Gay Marriage Bill

The NYS Senate just passed the Gay Marriage bill and it will become law very shortly. I actually love NY for once. Fuck yes.

 

You Applaud gay marriage thats a first never really seen some one into it

 

Marriage in my understanding of it is a religious ceremony and by making it open to gays is pissing off a lot of religious people. My opinion of this is good for them. As long as it doesn't affect me I don't care.

 

Marriage is a legal term. In NYS alone, married people get 1300 benefits from being married. Religious people are have no rational to oppose it.

Because of separation of church and state, to the government, that provides services to married people, marriage is plainly a LEGAL term. I don't give a shit if you call all marriages civil unions, but "separate but equal" is not equal and will never be.

I didn't think the Senate would pass it, but I guess things can happen. Hopefully this will start happening to more places.

 

I was hopeful. I was more worried that they would not let it reach the floor.

 

I mean, great for gays i suppose, but completely irrelevant to my lifestyle^^
But good for them, everyone deserves to be happy - no matter what the circumstances are.

I think it's great that NY passed it, but I find it appalling that only 6 states have legalized as of today. It's a shame.

But I don't live in NY anyway, so it doesn't affect me. But now, everyone's gonna be going there to get gay married and then move to the rest of the country.

 

I can't wrap my head around the religious nuts that think they should be the only people allowed to get married. Just because marriage is a common practice in religion does not mean that it is exclusive only to religion and it's followers. The United States, which is where I am sure a large portion of our users are from, was built upon religious freedom and separation of church and state. It's conservative/religious assholes keeping everybody from having the same freedoms. I'm willing to bet the same people who oppose gay marriage would have no problem allowing an atheist heterosexual couple to be married... so hypocritical.

My senator voted no, that fucker. Before they changed the districts, my old senator (who now covers towns south of me and across the river.... fucking redistricting.... oh well, that's a fight for another day), was the senior republican who spoke about the bill and threw his support at it (after voting no two years ago). I like him. And the dude who was like "FUCK IT" and voted yes. I even liked him on Facebook.
