    [p] Tanking Guide ~ Iron/Steel Dragons [p]

Hello, firstly i would like to tell you that this is my first post, and first guide, so please don't be too harsh. :D Secondly, since people have problems with iron/steel dragons, i decided to make a guide, so lets get started! Also, please note that this is RANGE tanking.

    IV. Getting there

    GEAR

When ranging metal dragons, it is better to have a higher ranged attack bonus than a ranged defence bonus as you will be safe-spotting anyway, if it is your first couple trips i recommend bringing gear with high defence bonuses, such as:

As always, it is essential to bring an anti-dragon or dragonfire shield along with antifires. Unless you are using super antifires. Anti-dragon shields are recommended as dragonfire shields have a -7 ranged attack bonus. A crossbow is obviously essential, rune or chaotic would be best, with decent bolts. In this picture, i have used adamant bolts, but i'd only recommend this if you have less than 55 slayer, as broad-tipped bolts are more cost efficient. The barrows armour can provide decent defence bonuses which may be useful. Rings of Wealth are a dragon slayers best friend! They increase the chance at which you can get a rare drop, i've gotten many RoW drops such as a hard clue from blue dragons and also 29 noted torstols from blue dragons aswell, alternatively you can bring an archer's ring (imbued if you can)! Another cheap alternative:

Although this set lacks good defence, the attack bonus is 24 more than the previous gear set, which is very important as these dragons have extremely high defences. Finally, the cheapest gear you could possibly get:

VOID! Although void robes have very low defence, and give the lowest ranged attack bonus out of my 3 setups, the sets special ability allows your maximum ranged hit to be increased by 10% of your ranged level! For example, my ranged level is 87, i can hit around 370 fully potted and with pray on, if i wore full void, i could hit 457, which is very high. Void is only recommended with 90+ ranged.

    INVENTORY

For the inventory, you will want quite alot of antifires, maybe one or two prayer potions incase something goes wrong, one or two rocktails if something goes wrong, a hatchet, preferably a cheap one so you could drop it, 875 coins to enter the Brimhaven Dungeon, high alchemy runes because you will get alot of rune drops, such as javelins, and finally, some varrock teleports and house teleports. The house teleport is to teleport to brimhaven then walk south-west and into the dungeon. Varrock teleports to bank. Leave the rest of your inventory space open to bury dragon bones and expensive drops such as the draconic visage. Unfortunately if you are tanking then you should not collect the dragon bones, otherwise you would have to bank very frequently so just bury them.

    TIPS

Metal dragons should never be underestimated, they are extremely powerful, and can be a trouble to low levelled dragon killers, if you do not know how to slay chromatic dragons, do not attempt to even kill metal dragons, they have the potential to kill an unprepared person in seconds.

A ranging level of atleast 70 is recommended, any lower could result in taking atleast 5 minutes to kill a dragon, which you do not want.

    GETTING THERE

Getting to the metal dragons in Brimhaven Dungeon can be tricky for the first trip, you will have to move past strong monsters like black demons so a high agility level could save your life. On this map, once you enter Brimhaven Dungeon, you will be at the area labelled exit, you should follow the red trail.

Once you arrive, immediately drink an antifire potion and head west to the north-west area of the room, there is a safespot behind the roots. When picking up drops, you can turn on protect from melee if you like.

    DROPS

Killing metal dragons can be very rewarding, with many expensive drops, which are one of the reasons why people kill them. Some drops that you should pick are:

    Item / Quantity / Price

    Dragon Plateskirt / 1 / 161,900
    Dragon Platelegs / 1 / 196,400
    Blood Rune / 15-20 / 5,355 - 7,140
    Runite Bolts / 2 - 14 / 1,316 - 13,412
    Rune Knife / 7 / 8,484
    Rune Arrow / 42 / 7,644
    Law Rune / 45 / 9,855
    Death Rune / 45 / 14,445
    Rune Bar / 1 / 13,100
    Coins / 470 - 11,054 / Not Sold
    Court Summons / 1 / Not Sold
Clue Scroll (hard) / 1 / Not Sold
Clue Scroll (elite) / 1 / Not Sold
Rare Drop Table / Varies / Not Sold
    Draconic Visage / 1 / 13,800,000

All prices are as of 20/6/11, 21:59

Post anything you would like to tell me. :)

    Decent guide.

Nice use of images although many aspects of the guide for example 'Tips' and 'Getting There' could be explained with a little extra detail.

    Nonetheless, thanks for this.

not bad, but despite what most people say about void. I recommend not using void for the following reason:
    pro's:
    Max hit highers with 10%
    con's:
    Low defence bonus
    Very low accuracy

I've gotten a total of over 70M range xp in the years I've played runescape, and from my own experience void is only good against npc's with low defence. For anything else with high defence it's the best to use black dhide+ gear.
Also, you should never use dragon boots when ranging. use snakeskin or ranger boots.
