OSRS 1-99 smithing guide updated 2025

    There are two major paths:

    • XP-focused (Gold bars, platebodies)

    • Profit-focused (Steel–Rune bars, cannonballs)

    You’ll want these key items:

    • Goldsmith Gauntlets (for 2.5× XP with gold bars)

    • Ice Gloves (for bar collection at Blast Furnace)

    • Coal Bag (essential for efficient Blast Furnace runs)

    Level 1–40 Training

    Option 1: Questing (Fastest)

Complete these quests for a quick boost:

    • The Knight’s Sword – from 1 to 29 instantly

    • Sleeping Giants

    • Elemental Workshop I & II

    • The Giant Dwarf

    • Heroes’ Quest

    • Recipe for Disaster: Pirate Pete

This path can take you up to level 39+ with minimal resources.

    Option 2: Traditional Training

If you prefer to smith manually:

    • 1–24: Bronze platebodies (faster than small items)

    • 24–39: Iron platebodies

    • 39–40: Steel warhammers (or platebodies if affordable)

Best location: Varrock Anvil (close to bank, easy access)

    Fastest XP Methods (40–99)

Gold Bars at Blast Furnace (40–99)

    • XP Rates: 380k–600k/hr

    • Requirements: Goldsmith Gauntlets, Ice Gloves, Gold ore, 72k/hr for dwarves

    • Use the Blast Furnace plugin in RuneLite

Cycle: Bank → Ore to conveyor → Bar Dispenser → Swap gloves → Collect → Repeat

    Platebodies (18–99)

    • XP Rates: 50k/hr (Bronze) → 240k/hr (Adamant)

    • Great for relaxed training

    • Use Imcando Hammer if available

    • Best location: Prifddinas Anvil (8 tiles) or Varrock (10 tiles)

    AFK Methods

    Dart Tips (Tourist Trap required)

    • XP: 16k/hr (Bronze) → 97k/hr (Rune)

    • AFK time: 81 seconds/inv

    Gold Bars at Regular Furnace

    • XP: ~63k/hr

    • AFK time: 81 seconds/inv

    Cannonballs

    • XP: ~15k/hr (double mould makes it ~30k/hr)

    • AFK time: 75–150 seconds/inv

    • Profit: Up to 400k/hr

    Profitable Methods (Steel–Rune Bars)

All smithed at Blast Furnace. Requires coal bag.

    Steel Bars

    • XP: ~90k/hr

    • Profit: ~800k/hr

    • 2 coal per bar

    Mithril Bars

    • XP: ~105k/hr

    • Profit: ~800k/hr

    • 4 coal per bar

    Adamant Bars

    • XP: ~100k/hr

    • Profit: ~1.4m/hr

    • 6 coal per bar

    Rune Bars (85+)

    • XP: ~100k/hr

    • Profit: 1.6m/hr

    • Requires ~25m in supplies per hour

    • Cycle: Coal trips → Rune + coal trip → Collect → Repeat

Rune Items & Direct Trading (Level 99+)

Once you reach 99 Smithing, you unlock the ability to make:

    • Rune 2h Swords

    • Rune Platelegs

    • Rune Plateskirts

These are high-alch targets, often bought in bulk by alchers. Instead of using the Grand Exchange and losing 2% to tax, experienced players trade directly using social circles.

    Where?

    • World 308, Varrock Anvil & East Bank

    • This area is informally hosted by long-time traders

    • Players join community chats to coordinate safe, bulk trades

Tip: One such chat is “Varrock Mob”, where traders connect to sell rune gear efficiently without tax loss.

Going from 99 to 200m XP making rune 2h swords with direct trading can yield over 565 million GP profit.

    Ironman-Specific Strategies

    • Complete The Knight’s Sword early

    • Use Motherlode Mine or Blast Furnace shop to gather ores

    • Turn leftover bars and armor into swords at Giant’s Foundry

    High-level ironmen will smith:

    • Dart tips

    • Armor for Foundry

    • Items for PvM or raids

    F2P Training Methods

    Questing

    • The Knight’s Sword gets you from 1–29 instantly

    Platebodies

    • Bronze → Iron → Steel → Mithril → Adamant

    • XP/hr: up to 90k/hr

    • Varrock Anvil is best for F2P players

    Barronite (Post-Quest)

    • 30 XP per Barronite deposit

    • Good for F2P Ironmen

Final Tips & Varrock Mob Integration

    • Blast Furnace XP is unmatched—use gold till 99 if fast XP is the goal

    • Platebodies are less click-intensive for long sessions

    • For massive profits, craft rune gear and sell directly to alchers

    • Join World 308, Varrock Anvil, and connect with quiet trading communities

    • Players in “Varrock Mob” often coordinate fair, fast trades without GE tax—ideal for smithing-based flipping or bulk alch supply

    Summary

Whether you’re grinding for 99 or funding your next skill, Smithing offers elite methods for speed, profit, or peace of mind. Train smart, trade directly, and take advantage of player networks to make the most of your time at the anvil.
