Cash limit

Will they raise it? The white partyhat is about 2B now.

 

It's not a limit on cash. It's a limit on Java i believe. 2.147 is as high of a number as they can put in.

Why else would they have it some random number instead of like 2b lol.

 

Old Forums Fury is correct. Runescape runs in 32 bit Java, and the limit for calculation with integers in that system is (2^31)-1.

If you type that in a calculator, you will realize that that equals 2,147,483,647 - a number we know as max cash.

I doubt Jagex would make the effort to switch to 64 bit just so that we have can have more cash in one stack.

 

Maybe once it reaches over 2 bil they could just switch the item?

Like if > = blah blah blah and just make a new sort of coin and when you examine it, it will give you like 2.147B instead of 2,147,000,000 but I doubt its a big concern, since most people have less then 50 mil lol.

 

They wont waste their time switching to 64 bit. not many people have maxed cash anyways.

 

Or rather make coins for 500k, 1m, 5m, 10m 25m and so on.

Or maybee just 25, 50, 100, 250 etc.

Would take a while to get 2B 1B coins^^

 

I think 1m coins would be the only ones worth making.
There's a threshold, once you hit 1m, the money starts to come really easy, therefore, more 1m coins would be easy to get.
But until you hit 1m, everything you buy or sell costs under 50k, so you'd gain or lose that token really fast.

 

Didn't they say they were making updates to Java in the Behind the Scenes?

 

If you have 2b to waste on a partyhat first of all.. call me second it shouldn't rise more. leave it at max and be done with it lol XD

 

they should create an item like "gold bars" in habbo
something that can be exchanged for coins.

 

Yes, like everyone else has said, they will probably end up using another form or currency.

Like in Guild Wars there's Platinum and Gold Coins.

But then they would be copying GW

 

Seems like most of you don't realize that they have already put in another form of currency. It's called shards --You can buy them at the Yanille petstore, any amount you want for 25 ea, and you can transfer them back into gold the same way.

Since Shards have a stable non-changing exchange rate of 25ea at the per store, a max stack of shards would hold 53.68B which covers 99.999% of RS.

 

this is a main way of trading over the limit
and storing cash

 

Just curious, what happens if you have max cash and then receive more?

 

64 bit wouldn't work on most computers so I doubt that they'd switch, 32 bit is universal and the max on that is 2.14b.

 

It drops on the ground or the trade cannot be completed... etc.

 

so do people just put excess cash into items or onto mule accounts?

 

You can hold a few stacks in the grand exchange - that's what most people do.

Items or mules are also options though.

 

2,147,483,647 is not the maximum amount of gold you can have or stack of a certain item. The only reason they actually have this is because it's already inside their java files.
However changing the max amount would require a huge amount of coding and that's not neccessary.
