    Jagex: Going Soft?

I remember back in the day when Jagex had a no exceptions rule for botting: you got caught botting, and you were permanently banned. No redemption, no repurchasing your account, and no second chances. Then, they introduced temporary bans: a system where your ban escalated from 14 to 21/28 and then to permanent. Then, Jagex cut out the 21/28 day bans and starting perma-banning less, resulting in frequent (and repeated) 14 day temp-bans + roll backs. Recently, I've seen several people comment on how they received a 14 day temp and weren't rolled back. My question to you is, is Jagex finally going soft? Are we seeing the end of bans? Whats next, perma and temp mutes for botting? :)P)

I'm sure if we gathered data on Jagex's care level and ban rate, we would see a very strong positive correlation.

Jagex doesn't care anymore, so yes, they have gone 'soft'.

I think they are more in it for the money now days. A vast majority of the "money making" bots are members. Therefor, they stand to make more money by allowing these accounts to continue doing what they are doing. I personally lost interest in the actual gameplay years ago. I've turned runescape into a part time job, and that's basically it. If free trade were to get removed again, I'd walk away just like I did the first time.

Exactly. Also, if you look at their recent updates (such as the Facebook integration and the game card promotion) they seem to be all about attracting new people to their game. Plus, theyre adding loyalty updates to try to keep their current members as long as possible. At the beginning, I really admired Jagex for how they put their players first. Now, I see that they are really all about money (maybe it's because I'm not 9 years old anymore).

Not sure if this is true, but there was a leak somewhere(One of my buddies told me) that JaGex had lost some programmers in there community. May thus could be the reason why? But, as far as im concerned them going soft is a good thing to most people who use sythe for runescape benefits. Such as botting. This means trades will end out more smooth(Rather then getting banned/reset/roll-backed). But I do miss the old times, where all there was, was legit people playing and no bots, and them not going just after the money, but actually caring about the players of the game its self.

Basically, it's going to soon be 90% botters, 10% 9 year olds. It will be botters selling gold to fellow botters, and botters skilling for other botters. Gold prices will continue to drop, until they're next to worthless (perhaps a year or two away, but destined to happen eventually), partly because of how much gold is added into the game, and partly because everyone will be botting their own gold, so there's no need to purchase it from others.

RS will die, end of story.

I feel the same way you do. I mean, I first joined the game 6 years ago because it was sort of a "social network" between me and my friends, when we were too young for the world of Myspace. I have no problem profiting from the game, now that my friends have grown out of the game. But one of the things I look for in a game (to play loyally) is committed developers, who are trying to please their customers while making the game a desirable environment for everyone. Runescape, sadly, no longer has that kind of staff.

I just had a thought, though it may not be accurate. Did it all fall apart when Mark Gerhard stepped up as CEO?

Although, as more people bot, money becomes harder and harder to come by, meaning the "money-making skills" will no longer make efficient money. Mild will be rarer, and in more demand, causing prices to rise.

It is very bad, the more Jagex does this, the more people are botting and bots are crashing the RuneScape economy.

They do it because they want to make more money. A large part of their member population bots.. if they were to perm ban a lot of their paying customers would quit.

JaGeX left Runescape a long time ago. Their occasional updates are just to give people something to talk about for a day or two.

They need to introduce more quests.

Also, on topic. Yes - they have gone soft on botting because they know that bots advance at the same rate as Runescape, and eventually... if they keep updating.. bots may become undetectable.

Yes, about a few months after Mark Gerhard stepped up as CEO. Although I do have to say, he's had some pretty interesting ideas for the game. And what i've noticed about botting is that, you'll usually see mods or even Jmods, near the most common places for where botters, bot.

It's like the government. They say they are for the people, but they're really just greedy bastards fucking the average man (legit players, and some other you could say) over.

I personally think they should start banning more of the gold-farming bots.

They are a Business now. Which means, making as much money as possible regardless of who suffers in the process.

Haven't they always been a "business?" It's just now when they're becoming a greedy one.
