Got Some Really Good News Today!

At a young age his body isnt his to do to as he pleases...
Taking the fact that hes still living with her parents Im guessing he is still young. His mind hasnt fully developed and he is unable to make sensible dessions on his own. This being said there are people under then 18 that are able to, but the fact that he has chosen to smoke up shows you hes not making a wise choose.
Parents allowing the child to do something legally is just stupid. Yes its not as bad as drinking, but at a young age its also illegal to drink, so he shouldn't be dong either one of them, and a good parent would try to prevent them from doing such a thing, not give him the thumbs up and let him blaze himself silly.
If he is still in school it will effect all sorts of things and may have a great impack to what his life will turn out to be..

Your parents need to learn some better parenting. Considering that you live in the US it is illegal for someone your age to smoke pot or drink. Instead of your parents letting you do one instead of the other they should have prohibited you from doing both of them. Kind of pathetic that parents would openly allow their child to do something illegal. If you are doing it legally I really have no problem, but I do not think young teens should be allowed to. Is it going to take you getting arrested for your parents to open their eyes?

That's where you appear to be mistaken. It's not the "thumbs up". Far from it. They probably don't want him to, but he has the resources, the ability and the knowhow, and they know they can't stop him. Call it damage control, if you would - it allows a safer environment.

Personally I wouldn't say smoking weed is insensible, just the way I wouldn't say drinking a moderate amount of alcohol is. It's relaxing, it can give you an up when you need one, it boosts creativity and if you do it every now and then it's hardly that dangerous. Such is the same for both substances. If you overdo either, yes, it's harmful, but conversely, if you take each moderately, it's not that bad at all.

    ---

I see someone mentioned drugs like heroin. Now that's an insensible decision. Why? Because it's so addictive, and so harmful. As I said, weed and alcohol do little in the long run if you take it moderately. I've known a former heroin addict, and lets just say she regrets her choices. It isn't hard to learn about what Heroin does to you, and if anyone still willingly chooses to take it, then perhaps they deserve their suffering. It's an absurd comparison.

Actually weed can unearth pre-existing mental conditions one may have.

It appears to be a very harmless drug, however if you are unlucky, even one encounter with it may lead you to become schizophrenic, or incur similar disorders.

Also with alcohol, moderate is very easily misunderstood. Moderate is greater than mild, and unless your definition of mild is virtually non existent, only a mild exposure (2-5 glasses of red wine weekly) is good for you. I need not explain to you the cognitive impairment 'any' alcohol causes.

For the most part, the overuse of most psychedelic drugs will harm you; weed is no exception; alcohol being a depressant is no exception either.

    OT:

Your parents don't seem to care, judging by the way you've worded their expression towards such acts.

And it's his choice if he wishes to take that risk isn't it? I was using "moderate" lavishly. What I mean to say is that if you do it every now and then, for most people nothing bad comes of it. There are those who are genetically "unfortunate". Unfortunately there's no standardised way of telling.

If you've given someone the 'cost benefit' analysis if you will of the ramifications of the choices they make, then it's their choice and their risk.
However if they are uneducated, about such ramifications, specifically long term and life altering ones, then someone needs to educate them before letting them do as they will.

For the rest, I agree with you completely, drinking alcohol in moderation will not harm your cognitive functions to the point where you become a headless chicken. Weed however is a different matter, there are cases where people smoke their whole lives and are fit as a fiddle, yet others take one encounter to alter their lives dramatically. The same may hold true for alcohol, but the spectrum is most certainly different; no one takes one drink and wakes up with bi polar.

I tend to agree with this, i actually know people personally that smoked cigarettes for 50+ years, and ended up passing away from Alzheimers. Just because a doctor tells you something, doesnt mean it goes for everyone. Everyone is different and people lead different lives that dont always go by the books.

That's a massive pile of bullshit. You're using the standard stupid comparison of 2 joints a day compared with 1 litre of whisky a day.

If you smoke every day, you're going to screw your lungs up.

If you have 2 beers a day, you're not going to hurt yourself.

"Omg ignorant!!!" is such a boring comeback for people who think allowing kids to smoke drugs is acceptable. Any parent with an ounce of common sense would not support this.

That's a good and bad thing at the same time. It's bad because your parents suck at parenting. It's good because you can smoke pot.

    Congratulations on your success.

You're misunderstanding; people who drink at his apparent age tend to overdo it. It takes a LOT of weed to "overdo it."

Are you saying that people take one hit and wake up bi polar? I've never heard of anything like this- it's not salvia or acid jesus.

That's sweet that your parents don't mind but all I can say is don't let it take over your life. It may not be physically addictive but you definitely can get hooked.

I'd say the #1 issue arrising from pot is a lack of motivation which could cause you more long term damage than the health side effects. That being said, avoid the lung damage almost entirely by using a vape- best investment I've ever made. There are still other effects but if you stay active, do well in school, and just keep your life on track in general then there really is no problem with it. Oh, and don't get caught/don't drive.

The carcinogens that start the formation of cancerous cells are effective from the moment you start smoking (whether legal or illegal).

What I am saying is people who argue "alcohol is worse" are assuming that anyone drinking alcohol is getting through a hardcore amount. In comparison, it takes far more alcohol to cause your body damage than it does smoke inhalation.

No parent should ever say it's "OK" for their child to smoke OR drink. There's a difference between accepting they will do it and actively allowing it. Parents should not take the easy option when it comes to their child's welfare.

Basically I can put this as a TL;DR:

    First post is dumb.
