Maybe the traffic went up, but not the active members count.
I think Sythe should advertise itself on Google Ads.

Or anyone that has a life. That is a very valid point. Free trade definitely upped the userbase here.

If it was true, that'd make sense. Runescape IS slowly dying, and these forums were mainly built around Runescape black markets.

    Sythe - Slowly dying?

If you think Sythe is "dying" right now, you gotta be nuts. Runescape had a major rush when free trade was released. Hype that comes from major releases or updates is great, but if you cannot expect hype to be permanent. Hype hits hard and dies hard. Sythe received a great deal of hype from the Free Trade update, and that has now more or less settled down.

That being said, the forums are as active as ever. Free Trade is a massive boost for the Runescape Black Market. Even after all the temporary hype is gone, the remaining permanent memberbase far outweighs its predecessor.

If you want to find Sythe's gloomiest days, go back and check out the forum on Feb 2, 2008. That was the day Free Trade was removed from the game. Nobody could transfer gold anymore, which essentially grinded things to a halt for awhile. At that time, RS GP was basically the site's universal currency.

So long as Runescape exists, Sythe will exist alongside it. Obviously the plan is to gradually try to add more black markets, but this is not exactly an easy process. This forum's culture is all based around Runescape, which explains its success, but also its difficulty in expanding across to other MMORPG's.

    Sythe - Slowly dying?

While this is true, don't forget that there are other parts of this forum that people frequent. If Runescape were to go kaput, Sythe could still survive with the WOW and Other markets, and well as the Off Topic forum. Though whether this would be cost effective for the owner, I don't know.

But people also have a lot of free time, so I think it kind of balances out.

    Sythe - Slowly dying?

Reason you may think the population of sythe is decreasing is only because, most people that were on sythe, were vaders or broke the rules in some sort of way. But for the most part I think sythe has a pretty good community size. Always seems to be active for what im interesting in buying/selling.

    Edit:
<---Agreed now that they have more freedom outside of school, they would probably want to hang out with people they know Irl.

Make a random post in the spam forum and watch how quickly it goes down the "new post" section.. I think this defeats your theory

Agreed, community involvement has gone down, but market activity has gone up. Probably due to the fact that a lot of the old sythe members have left.

With Runescape dying off it makes sense that Sythe would be a bit less active too.

I don't see how it's dying. Just less ban evaders and scammers. So of course the site has gone down a bit.

I actually think the site is more active now than it was a year ago when I joined. A lot more threads and people posting in the RS forums.

They don't even need to advertise. We're pretty well known, when it comes to Runescape cheating.
