So whenever you go on a website, can they only gain access to your computer if you "grant them permission" (such as allowing a Java applet or accepting a download)?

 

Yeah, they can. For Java Applets, they can inject you with a RAT or Keylogger and execute it in less than a second if you accept the applet. Most of the time, virus protection such as AVG or Malwarebytes will block it though. Only accept applets from publishers that you trust. With downloading a file, you must actually open it before they can gain access to your computer.

 

Ok thanks. I was actually wondering whether their hacking is triggered by your accepting their applet/download, or whether you can be RAT'd/keylogged by simply visiting a website.

 

Helpful, i have been hacked numerous times. When i scanned my computer with: Microsoft Security essentials. They removed like 7 keyloggers and some adware from my computer. Dang i was unprotected. Going to get MalwareBye Now. And Comodo to. Thanks alot.

i just got completely owned.2 emails and rs account is screwed but i managed to trade off my 66m before they got rid of it.
i got phished, and keylogged definitely. its a fight to be able to see my own emails. fml.
