Staff Interview: Karl

Before we start, before you n00bs start saying "omfg y isnt bubba fuzz interviewing anymoar, johnk sux!!", he's temporarily handed the reigns to me while he's away on vacation ^_^
Let's start then, shall we?


Welcoming our newly promoted Global Mod, Karl, to the hotseat!

Hello there

G'day! We'll start off with the essentials: How did you find Sythe and what were your intentions upon joining?
I stumbled upon sythe roughly january/february 09, I was filled with all the storys that its really easy to make money from runescape, and being the 14 year old i was, i just had to find out. I signed up quickly, oblivious on what to do, and started posting in runescape sections and I even tried to make a skilling market thread, but unfortunately, I got no service, days passed and i forgot about Sythe, and forgetting that account, I returned about two times later, making different accounts each time, and eventually settling on '.Karl', My account before that was iGoth, obviously a name I didnt want to keep, since i wasnt a goth, lol. Hence why I kind of have a knowledge about sythe to previously being here.


Haha. Why did you decide to hang around on .Karl and become active around the community?
The previous accounts were only to advertise Runescape Private servers mainly, since I used to be heavily involved with them, .Karl was meant to be a fresh start, I stopped playing them and just wanted to get involved with the community. When I first joined, the community appealed alot to me, at first it was awkward, Being an outsider like everyone starts off as, took me about a month to eventually get 'acknowledged' so to speak. I fell in love with Off-topic rather quickly, and then it just stuck.



You've risen quite fast, really. How did you take being promoted so early on in your Sythe career?
I have indeed, and to be honest, really really surprised. In the months before I was offered staff, I had next to no market trades, I think i may have had like 4 vouches, one off Finn for doing skill training though. I had been almost banned twice because of frame attempts by someone called Brandon, so I was worried on how the staff thought of me, then out of the blue, Tyro (On the 2nd/3rd day of him getting Admin) contacted me and I was offered the place, at the time i was friends with a handful of people so again, i was surprised I was chosen, especially when there was much better choice like Plznate and other people.



Humble . That's probably enough about Sythe for now, In terms of schooling, what are you doing?
Im currently in Sixth Form College, which is basically, in the UK, the step between National GCSE's and University, Taken between the ages of 16-18(to 19 if you retake a year). Unfortunately, Im studying subjects I was pushed into rather than what i want to do, Business Studies, Government and Politics, and Psychology. This year I've applied at another college, which hopefully I'll be taking Computing, ICT, Psychology and Sociology.


What did you aspire to be growing up?
This is going to sound dull and boring, especially for an interview, But nothing special, I had a less than great upbringing and I was taught to be happy with what I had (thats different now, Im spoilt by my stepdad.) I did really well in Primary School education and most of secondary school, I've never aspired to be anything and always kept my options Open.
However, if it means anything, I've always wanted to be involved in the gaming industry in some way, im just that much of a nerd. ;D



I'm sure most of us at one point wanted to be involved in gaming . What do you want to pursue now?
Im apparently naturally good at business studies, so if I continue in my current college doing the subjects i dont enjoy then I'll probably end up applying for either Marketing Psychology or Economics at University level. If I do get accepted into this other college to study other things then I'll definitely push for a career in software writing or something similar, thats where I think I'd be happy.



Hopefully we see your natural abilities in rsaccounttrader's investment competition then . Do you have any hidden talents?
I hope so too! And The best thing I could mention that could be seen was my time doing Freerunning/Parkour, An urban gymnastics sport which is basically getting from A to B as quick as possible, any route possible, be it over walls, roofs, etc. It could be dangerous and I went to the gym (not weights, gymnastics) pretty much every day and stuck to a healthy lifestyle. unfortunately i gave all that up with Skateboarding too, when i had started to get alot of pain in my knee joint, I had damaged cartilage in my right knee.


Sorry to hear, sounds like fun impersonating a super saiyan lol. Have you got a job or a source of income?
lol
and unfortunately not! Im too lazy to get a job, The only job i've ever had was 1 week work experience.
My only source of income is from EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance), which is like £20 a week (£30 for others.), Im going to have to get a job for the weekend soon though because my silly government has scrapped that because of the defecit.


Aside from beast modding on Sythe, what do you do to pass time? hobbies?
When im at home its normally either Xbox or PC games, I play alot of call of duty with IRL friends and only recently, World of Warcraft with people from Sythe, Im enjoying that and at the time its eating all my spare time. When Im outside, Just going to a calm place to chill with friends is normally what happens, but we go the cinema and bowling alot.



Are you currently in a relationship?
Indeed I am, we've been together for about 4 months now, she means alot to me (even though I dont show it enough). we dont see enough of eachother but when we do its great, I almost moved in with her a month ago. I'm a rather bad boyfriend to be honest, I dont know how she puts up with me


Do you have any piercings or tattoos?
Yes! I have snakebites (two Piercings on the lower lip) and I had a 12mm Stretched tunnel in my left ear, and an eyebrow piercing, however I'm trying to close them now, the ear has shrank to about 2mm and the snakebites wont close.
I have a tattoo on my arm, chinese writing, my name


Intense. What is something you'd like to do before you die?
Hmmph, hard question... Explore as much of the world as I can. I think It'd be pretty cool to go on one of those zero gravity flights too.


Have you got any pet peeves?
Aggressive and rude people, anyone then doesnt treat someone with respect yet ask for it in return, I guess.. Oh, and attention-whores who seek to fit in. ;P

oh, and I get rather annoyed at people who hold grudges too.

What are your plans for Sythe now?
To keep moderating as much as I can and complete my OMM app, further down the line I'd like to see myself as Head of something, possibly Middlemen or something, who knows, It'd be nice to reach admin level too.
