Does Karma Exist?

So let me get this straight, because you did something bad (you would have had to do something bad for karma to make that guy scam your cash) karma uses this person to get you back by doing something bad to you only to have him have something bad happen to him by someone else only to have that person have something bad to them and blah blah blah

Karma contradicts itself because it causes this causality chain that removes free choice. Also how can an outside force determine what is right and wrong? What if someone considers stealing right? If they steal from a store will they in turn have good things happen to them?

At a base level it makes little sense, it's a nice thought but makes no real logical sense.

Even though it doesn't exist, it's a nice way of thinking. Treat others like you want to be treated yourself, good things happen to those that do good things, ... but reality has taught that this is not a correct way of thinking.

I did have a couple irl situations where it looked like there was Karma involved, but then again there have been plenty of other situations where no Karma could have been involved. Unless you want to take it to a whole different level and try to make them match.

 

Even though I believe in a higher power that controls fate, I don't necassarily believe there's a balance between the good and bad things that happen to you. For all you know, only bad things can happen and only a few Good (this is what you yourself by nature would percieve as something bad or good). Or it could be the opposite. My belief resides in the thought that the good or bad that happens, you yourself have no control over it. For example, if a family member was to pass away tomorrow and you had no control over that, then that would be something bad that's happened to you. It's the same with gambling shall we say, where you have no control over what your going to get.

Does your version of "Karma" suggest that for everything bad happens to you, good things will also (in a equal sense) happen to you aswell?

I guess I don't believe in what goes around comes around.

 

It's very easy to connect two things. For example, if I start cursing out my parents then stub my toe when walking back to my room I can say "Oh shit. I shouldn't have said that to my parents". If I didn't stub my toe but failed a test the following day I can again connect the dots. But in order to accept karma, one must accept a higher being who is controlling the consequences to our actions.

 

In the sense that every action has a positive and equal reaction, yes. But in terms of the cosmos evening out good and evil? No.

There are people born every day and all they do is starve until they are dead, not sure what bad deed they could have done in this time span to have karma punish them with death

 

i think the more bad things u do the more bad aura builds up around u, the bigger ur aura the easier it is to attract negative energy i.e more bad shit happens to u lol...

on the flip side if u do nice things the more "good" aura builds up around u and good things happen to u.

 

I agree with you h3llz0n3arth. What you are referring to is the law of attraction. If you send out positive energy to the universe, than you attract positive energy to yourself, while if you send out negative energy to the universe, you attract negative energy to yourself.

 

Karma can't just exist for you if you want it to. It either does or it doesn't.

In my opinion, it doesn't. As others have said, karma would contradict free will if it existed. All the good things that happen to you are mere co-incidences. But that won't stop me from doing good to others.

 

Eh this is a very good thread which can lead to very good discussions.

As stated above karma is real if you want it to be real. If you loose your wallet and you believe in karma you will think to yourself, oh its because I was being an asshole to so and so. If you don't believe in karma you'll just think, oh its bad luck.

However I believe if you do good, you will get good in return. If you do something wrong, things will catch up to you sooner or later.

No. And to believe in this flying spaghetti monster would be no more far-fetched or unreasonable or retarded than karma or any other god/religion.

Karma is based on faith. Its all a personal question.

 

Saying that karma absolutely exists is like saying if you kill someone you certainly will go to jail. There is no guarentee that "what goes around comes around", assuming that there is no outer force beyond our conscious minds.

 

In my life i have Experanced that it does Exist.
Iv seen many cases wear carma has happend.
It has happend to me and i will never do it again.
What i did to make it happen.

 

Ridiculous. It's nice in practice, but really it's people looking for justification as to why "bad" things are happening to them.

People see things how they want example: Man prays to god for a sign, the wind blows a door open a few minutes later. he presumes it was his sign, as someone else just thinks it nature.

Best thing to do, be a good person and treat others as you would like to be treated and karma wont bite you in the buttox

 

A good analogy would be the belief in ghosts. People believe in them, and then they have a "weird" experience, and immediately assume it was a ghost.

Likewise to religion. Who says that an angel directly stopped Abraham from murdering his son? Maybe, it was his conscience. Although, that's not quite so good an analogy, because that's more like chinese whispers

 

You can have an opinion that tells you it exists, and I believe that one day, somebody who does something bad will get what they deserve. I, though, don't think it'd be very good if everybody agreed. It would result in everybody having revenge attacks, and people taking "Karma" into their own hands. They would try to act like Karma, and, for example, kill somebody who killed somebody.

Karma is the idea of if you do something bad to another person, you will pay for it sooner or later, it doesn't have to be a divine or religious force as most of you think although im not saying it isn't. so yes karma exist imo

 

But you really don't. In a regular world with no outside intervention, doing wrong to someone wouldn't bring wrong upon yourself. It's this idea that everyone holds the moral value of "do unto other as you would have done unto you" (Sorry if I messed up the quote I haven't heard it in awhile) when in reality, not everyone holds this true.

Look at Organized crime heads, they cause so many soldiers and mules to be arrested/killed that you would think Karma would be after them like crazy, but they live comfortably while their money is laundered through hundreds of businesses.
