    Remove Rule Against Selling Code

    Greetings,

My suggestion revolves around this sticky: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1118780

I'm sure this doesn't have an effect on too many people, but I had a nice little business running, so I'm going to make an attempt to try correct this.

    1. Why exactly does this rule exist? There is no legal issue with selling code. Yes, the quality of code might be relative, but if you take a look at the customers that I personally have served, every one of the individuals were happy with the final product.

To counter this problem, I'd often display the program via TV or skype to the buyer before the trade was conducted to ensure that it was doing exactly what it was intended to do.

As Blade Bro4 points out, this system of having a relative product is exactly the same case as the graphics section, but yet this system runs smoothly.

    2. How can Sythe be "the craigslist of virtual goods" when programming sources nor services are allowed to be sold here - furthermore, how can Sythe not support this?

    3. This also does not contradict the rule in the homework help section as this is not targeted towards school pupils, but anyone seeking Java programs.

    14 Support so far noticeably,

My thread was quite successful even given the small market, so I was just disappointed to see this rule in place.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

    WackyWamba

I can see the issue with the customer not being happy with it, or saying that they aren't and using it anyway...but that's how the graphics forum works and it works fine. I'm 50/50 on it, not enough to give you an answer though. :s

Thanks blade, I'll adapt the message to include the graphics argument.

Support, doesn't affect me, but I can see how it could shut out a small business and there's no reason for that if there is no harm being done. In short, I agree, it is the same as the graphics sales...

Same thing relates to gfx and the artists add a watermark. If you are a good programmer I'm sure you can add security and give them a limited product until they pay so I don't really see why they have ruled against it.

Support. Why would programming services be banned from Sythe? It is a completely legitimate service. Probably one of the safest that could be offered here lol.

Sounds's like a good idea, because most sites don't accept RSGP. :p

Support as I don't see anything wrong against selling code, its just like any other product or service. As long as it stays within legal parameters, there shouldn't be any harm in doing so.

That's why you read it. I support. SMR does too, the rule will likely be removed.

I support this, I might need coding done in the future and I see no reason why it can't be bought. Like GFX, the coder will work until the buyer is satisfied.

    People should send open source.

Support. Code selling is a legitimate service. Even on programming specific forums there are sections for people to sell code.

In the event that it's been compressed and the buyer is concerned, they can ask for the unzipped files. Also you could scan it before opening it or ask for it to be put onto pastebin.com

In the event of sneaking a keylogger into the actual code... Well that's highly unlikely, you'll be able to see through the imports/includes that they're using things they shouldn't be and it would be pretty obvious just scanning through, even by someone who isn't experienced in programming.

edit: Thanks to all the supporters,

Yeah, even for someone who isn't well versed in programming languages, they can easily read through it and usually be able to see if something looks fishy, especially things such as key loggers... Too easy.

Bump, thanks everyone I'm going to try contact some admin about this later in the week as I feel like it's pretty much unanimous. Hopefully SMR doesn't forget about it :)
