    Is torture justified?

Depends, if the person has done harm to others, or can stop it. Same basic question as is the death penalty ok. Well hell yea, to even have that as a option you have clearly not done anything good, and 99% of the time killed multiple people, so yea i say shoot him in the back of the head screw the complicated expensive process.

It is better for people to fear you, then to love you, becuase people are selfish, if you torture to get information you need, it is more reliable, if you are just nice, you might get scameed/

    Is torture justified?

Torture is a hard thing to explain. It's not justified or right, but it's sort of necessary and effective.

A lot of information cannot be gained by simply asking for it. When somebody has the choice of continuing to endure the torture they're enduring or sharing information, they're most likely going to share the information. This makes torture basically a necessary evil that all countries have used and some point and probably still do.

It's a similar concept bribery. When somebody can sacrifice others (in this case, the information) for their own benefit (in this case, not being tortured), they're much more likely to do it than if there were no real benefit to them.

I am for torture when necessary. It being ruled as necessary in my eyes when it endangers many peoples lives other than just the one being tortured. As well as in some other extreme circumstances.

I believe if a person is tried and found guilty of a extreme crime - such as treason - they should be tortured to a certain degree. There would be of course limits to this, such as not allowing torture that causes permanent damage - cutting off limps/fingers/etc. - and also the torture couldn't place the person's life in jeopardy.

    Is torture justified?

I don't really know where I stand on torture. It is cruel and barbaric, however in many cases, it is the only way to get crucial information that can save lives. I'm split. If I had to pick a side, I would probably say that I am pro-torture, but not in the sense of cutting off peoples fingers or something sick like that. More psychological torture or torture that doesn't inflict much lasting effects

    Is torture justified?

Before you can judge if it is justified, you must first define torture. What is torture? What isn't? Russians view it differently than Americans. Who is right? That's the first dilemma here as it is such a broad question.

    Is torture justified?

Torture is justified when that person inflicts or intends to inflict (ex: planting a bomb) pain and suffering on other individuals. I grew up with the slogan treat others the way you want to be treated.

"The problem with an eye for an eye is that everyone ends up blind."

Although, as others have said, if torture is the only method to get someone to talk in dire circumstances, I'd say its valid.

This. In cases where information is absolutely necessary, then it's OK.

If it's the casino type of torture, where you break someone's hands so they can't cheat anymore, then no, it's not OK.

Saying that, I'm also against the death penalty since no information is needed and there is no actual reason to have to kill the person.

I do not think torture is ever justified. Information extracted through torture is likely to be false due to the victim wanting to confess to end the torture.

I don't believe in forcing someone to tell the truth because it might not be the truth if it was coerced out of them.

    Is torture justified?

Torture can have a cleansing effect on the person that is being put through the process.

It can make a naughty boy feel clean again.

    Is torture justified?

Depends on the case..During wartime sure I am all for it as a technique for our operatives to use to extract information. As punishment for a criminal sentence, sure if its crime is worth it.

Yes, you should use torture only in dire situations. But i think to inflict pain to the body is a bit too much, there are other ways of torture.

It's not justified, but sometimes you gotta do dirty work to stop the crime.
