Using Western Union - Under 18

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if It's possible to use Western Union if your under 18. I'm 17 years old, when sending and collecting money would I have to show proof of my age or just identity.

Any of you guys under 18 and using Western Union?

I done a quick search on sythes old topics and dug up this one, should answer some your question.

I think as long as you have photo ID or a passport your all good.

They won't verify your age. If you have a passport / ID card you are set.

 

its worth a shot man, just take your passport or another recognized ID.

So I went to my local WU shop. I asked the women what ID I need and she said passport Pr driving licence, they will both have my DOB on there, what do I do.

 

Are you even sure you have to be 18 to use it? If so, get the person to send it to your parent's name and have them pick it up.

 

well first off dont lie about ur age about something like this... find out if u can do it or not by asking a person @ ur nearest W/U if all else fails, get ur parents to help. that saves you a ton of trouble.

 

It depends on the person working there. You need to prove you are who you are, but in many cases the person working there won't care if you're not 18. Being 17 you probably could get away with it though.

 

You have to be 18 to be able to send money, but you can be of any age (as long as you have a valid ID) to collect it.

 

Yeah I agree with Hahanerd, my cousin was only 16 when he went to go pick up his money he just showed valid ID and he got his money.

 

Thanks for all those who helped me in this situation, I might just get down to my nearest WU agent and just ask if I can pick up money if I'm 17.

You don't need anything when sending money, but I have no idea about collecting money.

 

But, what if I try to send money being 16... is there a small chance of being let to?

 

No. You must be 18. Either collecting it or sending it. They will check age before doing anything. This is how it is in Canada. If you live here, the rules are very strict.

 

In the United States, you can send money without telling them your age.
I'm 16 and I've been sending money via WU.
