Graphics Section overhaul

The graphics section seems to be getting a little neglected lately, it's really messy and there are quite a few posts in the wrong sections etc. Do we even currently have a graphics mod?

Anyways, as I was going through and reporting some posts that were spam/in the wrong section/etc. I noticed the graphics section isn't set up as well as it could be.

Here is what I came up of off the top of my head for a new set-up.

As you can see, my idea is to merge the General GFX Talk sub-forum with the help and advice sub-forum and make a new section for tutorials and other advice. The reason being, the 'Help, Tutorials and Advice' section is very clustered with tutorials and people asking for help. I think it would be much better if the two sections were split into their own.

I would also enjoy seeing the SOTW pick up agian... I'd be willing to help if need be.

 

I'm not one for GFX, but this seems sensible. As for the SOTW, it was being picked up again a few months ago when Spraynwipe became GFX mod, but he left due to being busy, and nobody since has picked up where he left off. Someone new running it probably wouldn't hurt.

 

The section's pretty much neglected at the moment.

 

We need a graphics mod or a global who's prepared to step up and run SOTW/contests.

 

I'm not a GFX wizkid myself but I do like to occasionally browse the GFX forums to see some good works of art and yes I agree, it does seem a bit neglected

Support for this, seems a good idea and no harm in doing it

 

We need to appoint a dedicated Graphics Mod... One that will do what needs to be done and not become inactive or step down from their position and desert the section...Which unfortunately seems to happen an awful lot around here.

 

A majority of them have just moved on dude.

 

I personally would like to see this, I love graphics. Waiting for the section to become... more.

 

I understand that, I'm just saying we need to appoint someone in their place. Just as they would for any other section.

GFX is pretty empty, as this is a RS based site. But a mod would be nice, it's not like they'd have to do a whole lot.

 

I don't see anything inherently wrong with the way the section is currently constructed, but I do agree with you that another graphics mod should be appointed.

 

I think it is not the set up but it may need a mod.

 

The main problem in my opinion in the graphics section is that there isn't an incentive to post and make graphics just for showing off in the Sythe communtiy.

1) You can't vouch for graphics. Therefore members take a price for their graphics if they are willing to actually make.

2) Not many "pro" designers are active in these forums since most of them are in the big Graphics communities where they usually develop, learn and help.

As you can see, the "showcase" forum has 6 forums devoted for battles. I do understand the point in some of them such as the SOTW. But the actual "graphics battles", there isn't much use in them.

If you read some of the threads, many "call outs" were either declined or the other person didn't reply.

What I suggest is that instead of having 3 useless forums with less than 200 threads, merge it to one forum and add "Graphics Teams" as a sub-forum where players can gather up, work together and also actually "battle" against other teams. One person is usually busy, but once you get into the "team" environment, things change and you feel the real competition.

In addition, as I mentioned at the beginning of my post, since there is no actual incentive, I suggest adding "Graphics Recommendations" or even merging it with the vouches. People vouch currently for the stupidest things such as leveling an account from level 1-30. That is worth about $1-$2 at the priciest legit training service while in graphics shops banners could reach up to $30.

If you still consider it being different, having graphics recommendations may bring some more people into trying out making graphics or any sort of artistic designs since they will feel their hard work is finally worth something other than a few dollars.
In the RS Botting section people can train your account from level 1 to level 60 for a vouch, that means that it may be sometimes worth more than a dollar or two. It could be the same with graphics. A recommendation could be worth more than the payment received.

You can't force people to be active in the GFX community , you can only give incentive to be active , which Is what I think would need to happen.

 

That's what I said... Never mentioned a thing about making them active. I even suggested a few incentives such as adding an option to vouch/recommend graphics. :/

As for your other suggestion about re-organizing the section, I agree.

For the one about activity, as some people already said, you can't force people to be active. This community is all about the market and RS. Not many people give two flying crap about GFX.

 

It's not more mods, it's a mod at least.

Or, as Darkgroove used to do, make a global (preferably someone who knows the section like Blupig) a GFX mod as well as global.

Youre right, but when there isn't a mod specificially for the section it gets neglected.
