PM Notification when Quoted

I've been thinking of this for a while, but I was reminded of it by Flight's Post.

I recommend users be PMed every time they are quoted. This helps users stay on top of their threads; it allows more fluid conversations to happen in the discussion forums and quicker trades to happen in the market forums.

Even better, a user should be able to choose when modifying his profile whether to activate this feature or not. This would be the best of both worlds (im not sure if the second feature can be implemented with this version of vB, but the first certainly can be).

 

Yes! I always hated when I was quoted and I didn't know I was. If this could be implemented with this version of VB, I'm all for it. 10000% Support!

 

I like this, but... If it could be another notification system, I'd support it more. My pm's would be filled really... Really fast.

I agree with him, PM inboxes would fill up rather fast if you were PMed with a notification every time someone quoted you.
Maybe something like the 'subscribed threads' notifications under your CP. Like add under it "Replies to your posts" and have them listed there. It surely can't be too difficult to do.

Support, yet I agree with the above. Notifications sent to your PM may fill up your inbox pretty quick depending on how active you are. Something more like "replies to your post" as World Domination said would be more suitable.

 

My suggestion was a preliminary one. If a better notification system can be put in place that doesn't use PM space, I'm all for it. I'd rather the PM system than nothing, however.

 

I support this idea, however I don't really foresee it being implemented. I only say this because usually suggestions like that would require some type of vB add-on and if there is not one similar to this it would require a lot of coding, and I doubt it would happen if it came to that because it would probably be very time consuming for something that is not much of a big deal. However, if there is some type of add-on that would work with our vB version then I support this. I hate going back to a topic I posted on awhile ago to see that I had been quoted and never responded. This would be helpful, I especially like the idea of the choosing to enable / disable it.

You'll have people in endless spam/baits, continuesly quoting each other (especially when debating). I mean can you imagine that, "i'll be having the last post", "no me".

Just more spam for mods to deal with I guess. But I suppose the positives outweigh the negatives. Would be a good feature, but isn't it going to take up alot more database space, thus making forums slower? (There's alot of quoting going on sythe).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does that PM you or only email you? My proposed feature would be more useful for some who would prefer to be notified some way though sythe itself.

For technical reasons? That sounds like a good suggestion to me.

 

You can always check back on the thread, but it would be cool if there was a vBulletin plug-in for it.

 

Very neat suggestion. It would be a lot easier if we can get PM as a notification.
Saves a lot of time. I cannot be assed to keep on checking over on threads.

 

Thanks for bringing this to light again RS, but sadly, Sythe or someone else already denied this because it was too hard or they didn't want to update the current version of vBullettin to be able to have this option work.

Honestly, I have no clue how hard it can be to update it, unless it conflicts with something server side or protection against hackers or something along those lines.

This would be really really useful, sometimes.

If this was optional, and it applied for like only some forums, would be perfect.
