Removal of All Previous & Future Self-Bump Posts On Your Own Thread

Self bumping is purely used to bump your post up to the top and pad the reply count making it appear as if your post is being actively engaged when a large majority of replies are just the word "bump" by the person who made the thread.

I suggest the removal of all previous bump posts from the thread creator in their own thread and the prevention of future self-bumps. It's a useless post that adds unnecessary replies and could drastically cut away fluff and can show you how much interaction a thread truly receives. Maybe bumping a post to 'refresh' could be changed so that you simply click an actual refresh button to your thread once a day? Bumping other people's threads would also be an unnecessary thing as then to circumvent the aforementioned removal of self-bumps everyone would just go around bumping their friends up instead.

Remove it all, no more self-bumps, change the way people 'refresh' their threads and have threads show their true worth. I would honestly wonder why there would be a counter-argument to this, seems like it really shouldn't exist in the first place. I wouldn't be surprised if some people would be upset to see their reply counts dwindle - exposing the reality that a good % is just single-word posts replying to themselves.

 

No support. People pay for the auto bumping system, and they pay well. This is mostly in the market sections so not really an issue to bump sale threads. Plus, if the forum had more engagement outside of the market threads I could see more purpose in a meaningful post count, but unfortunately the only active sections are the market sections.

 

I do not support this. But I would support the market sections post to not count towards post count like some other sections of this forums already uses.

 

I don't see any benefit to this besides making post count "matter", and keeping threads cleaner. But as stated above, bumping is basically only done in the marketplace subforums where it doesn't really make a difference if the thread replies are clean (since vouches are usually posted in a separate thread).

And if you want to make postcount "matter" it could just be excluded for marketplace related subforums.

Would be cool if the forum was set up this way initially, decades ago, but would be a functionally impossible undertaking to implement now, with not much benefit, imo.
