Refferals

So I asked a mod if i'm allowed to have a refferal link in my signature to another site and they told me no. But on a lot of peoples' sig, I see the refferal of 'seershost' or 'photonvps'. Refferals are refferals, if i'm not allowed to have it, why do they?
Someone clear this up for me.

 

Although I'm not 100% sure of this, I was under the impression that advertising in your sig IS allowed, BUT it CANNOT advertise another forum which is similar to sythe. Seerhost / PhotonVPS can be advertised because they do not directly effect the people on sythe, whereas if you advertised another black market, it would.

Like I said, I'm not 100% on this.

Back when I was an admin on a fail black market site I had a link in my signature and nothing was said. I don't know how the rules work with that though so perhaps I was screwing up and no one said any thing.

 

I never had a problem with my referral link because it is nothing Sythe similar, rather a legit provider with years of happy customers. I keep it there because I help people from time to time regarding VPS, PhotonVPS and web hosting in general. I answer threads, get countless PM's and help via msn if need be. Making a few cents whilst I'm at it minimally makes up for the time I spend.

I would suggest staying within the Sythe rules to be safe regarding links in your signature.

 

So basically what you're saying is that it's ok for you to have your refferal in your signature because you spent hours helping people?...

 

I dont think so as it doesn't directly effect the Sythe users...

It's a refferal to a CPT or w/e site. The ones that do surveys for points.

 

I thought you were able to post them in your sig but you just couldn't make threads about them.

 

I don't know if that's the case, but a refferal is a refferal.

 

As far as I'm aware that wouldn't be against the rules, but I could be mistaken. Who told you it wasn't allowed?

 

When I was a mod, signatures were fair game for almost anything (including referrals) as long as there wasn't any indecent or obscene imagery and it wasn't too big.

 

Well I spoke with kero a few weeks ago and he said any refferals at all are not allowed.

 

That is the only rule regarding referrals, and it says that you may not post it, therefore, having it in your signature should be allowed.

Yeah, I think Kero may have been mistaken if he told you that couldn't go in his sig. Again, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm not.

 

Referrals in signatures are okay.
