Why do people donate?

To mods: Please don't delete or close this thread. I want people's honest answers, and in no way is this meant to discourage or encourage for that matter, people to donate to the site. This is a neutral discussion on donations.

I want people's honest answers to this question. Before that, however, I'll give you my take on donations.

Personally, I believe people only donate for the rank, as truthfully there is no other reason to donate. The donations are split between Sythe and Matthew, and none of the money actually goes toward the site. With that being said, some people still say something along the lines of, "Sythe runs this site, and he deserves the money," or, "He keeps the forums running smoothly." Well I agree he keeps the site running (obviously, he's the owner). The reasoning those people use doesn't make sense to me.

To me, that's like me going up to my best friend and giving them money just because they've been my best friend all these years. If I were to tell someone that, they would probably think I was stupid, yet people use the same general idea when they donate.

The other obvious reason as I already stated is for the rank. People want the rank for two main reasons, to try and earn respect/trust, or to simply show off to other members.

So, I now ask you, why have you donated? Be honest with yourself, and with the readers of this thread.

You act like DDOS protection and MULTIPLE servers just fall out of the sky.

You have no clue how many hours Sythe/Matthew have to spend to keep the site running smooth, guarding against and minimizing DDOS attacks, writing custom scripts for our security etc etc
