    New Laptop - Need advice

Hey Guys, I'll keep this short and sweet. I'm looking at upgrading my laptop, because my one now laggs out to much, and just can't do what I need it to, when I need it to do it.

    My current laptop is: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2357

The laptop I'm looking at is: http://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/c...oshiba-l750-03c-15-6-notebook/prod111573.html

I'm as far from a tech-expert as it's possible to be, but I know some people here are, so I'm here for advice.

    • Does this new laptop I'm looking for have a better graphics card then my current one?
    • Currently, I can't do firecapes on low detail without lagging, even beside or plugged into my modem, will this new laptop of mine prevent that?
    • Would you say this new one is worth the price tag? Approx $1035USD
    • Does this seem like it will last? I'm looking to go to uni next year, and I don't want to be buying a new one because this one breaks down.
    • Any other info you have for me?

Any and all help you can give me is appreciated.

    Thanks.

EDIT: Price range 1000 - 1100 USD, or less.

    New Laptop - Need advice

Does this new laptop I'm looking for have a better graphics card then my current one?

Yes. It's not the top notch graphics card, but compared to your current basic one, anno 2004, this should be far more advanced. I wouldn't advice this graphics card if you want to play the latest games in high quality, but running those games on regular quality, this one would be more than enough. For RuneScape, I doubt it would lag, in case it's not due to your internet connection.

Currently, I can't do firecapes on low detail without lagging, even beside or plugged into my modem, will this new laptop of mine prevent that?

If the problem is graphic based, yes. It could be due to your CPU aswell, but this one has a far more advanced one, so if that's the problem you should be fine aswell!

Would you say this new one is worth the price tag? Approx $1035USD

I'm basing this decision by converting it to Euro and comparing it to other models in Belgium: I'd say it's worth it, unless you would rate this computer "expensive" compared to others in New Zealand. If it's "normal", it looks like a good computer.

Does this seem like it will last? I'm looking to go to uni next year, and I don't want to be buying a new one because this one breaks down.

Sure, you should be fine :)

Any other info you have for me?

Not really, I've done some research and it looks good tbh :)

Before I answer your questions, may I ask what is the most you are willing to spend? Give me a price range.

That new laptop is much better than your old one.

It has 4gb of RAM which will really help out if you have more than one program on at a time.

The processor is much better as well and should help remove some of the lag.

You could (if you wanted too) probably spend another $100-$200 and get an even better one :)

I'll update the OP with price range. But I'll say it here too. I'm not really looking to spend much more then 1050 USD. If this toshiba can handle what I want it to do, I may just get that.

Does this new laptop I'm looking for have a better graphics card then my current one?
Yes, but not really by much

1 Currently, I can't do firecapes on low detail without lagging, even beside or plugged into my modem, will this new laptop of mine prevent that?

It should, but I'd want a quad core.

2 Would you say this new one is worth the price tag? Approx $1035USD

I've seen better, but you're in the ballpark

3 Does this seem like it will last? I'm looking to go to uni next year, and I don't want to be buying a new one because this one breaks down.

It will last, as long as you don't drop it and shit. There's a warranty on the site so yea

4 Any other info you have for me?

It only says 4gb ddr3 RAM, so you have no way of knowing the clock speed, which would be where they would short you.

No HD RPM. It could be a 5000 rpm drive or a 10000rpm drive, it doesn't specify.

It also doesn't specify the type of gpu it has. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just integrated or whatever..

Not usb 3.0, which would be something I would want.

    New Laptop - Need advice

Well, RS is the only game I would play. I'm not into COD etc.

Should I be looking for a higher rpm? Or a lower rpm?
My friend says that I5 is quad-core? But as I said, I'm a noob with computers.
His dad is a computer guy, so can build me a better designed one for what I need, for cheaper.

The higher the RPM the better, but it really doesn't make a huge difference. Worth looking into though so you know what you're getting

Not all i5's are quad core. The one that comes with the computer you picked is a dual core, but it has hyperthreading. so it has 4 virtual cores but only 2 physical cores. Typically a true quad core is better though, whether it has hyperthreading or not.

Don't do it. For that much you can pick up a dell xps with a second gen I7 in it. I have one now, and it's insanely good. 2.1 speaker system built in (yes a sub) 1080P led screen, 8gb of dual channel ram, 2430qm mobile processor (about the same as a 950)

If you're willing to go a little higher, the asus g53 is beautiful. If you want to go a bit lower, the dell inspiron 14R (second gen) is currently at a great price.

14R second gen is currently 800$, you can get a 6470 mobile which will push it to 900.

Try some I7 asus', shop around.

    Hey Rsprod,

Knowning you live in auckland etc , I'd go to a shop called PB Technologies.

Talk to the PC staff there and explain what you'll be using the laptop for etc , they usally cheaper then most places and if you pay cash you'll get a good discount since is more of a factory / supplies shop.

    http://www.pbtech.co.nz/

Brought all pieces for my Gaming pc from these guys ( Told them what I wanted and they told me best part for it) , cost me $1200 NZ and the best Gaming pc I can find with same software / parts is over $3500NZ.

If you want to spend a bit extra I'd go for this:

    http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z...AS5745G-i7-720QM-Quad-Core-1.6GHz-4GB-DDR3-64
