    Was Sin needed?

Was sin required for us to truly live with God in paradise for eternity and to love Him with every fiber of our being?

I'd say yes, that Adam's deed, which ushered death and sin unto the world, was most definitely needed for us to experience God and His eternal paradise for us. Here's why:

If we have free will than sin is always just around the corner. It is only by giving us a choice, live a sinful life and die a sinner or live a saved life and live forever, that God can eradicate sin. Why? Because we use our free will to volunteer into the narrow way which keeps sin at bay.

If we did not have sin than we would not have free will and if we did not have free will than we could never love, and that's what it is all about... love.

    Was Sin needed?

    Here is the full Psalm.

1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept
    when we remembered Zion.
    2 There on the poplars
    we hung our harps,
3 for there our captors asked us for songs,
    our tormentors demanded songs of joy;
they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How can we sing the songs of the LORD
    while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem
    my highest joy.

7 Remember, LORD, what the Edomites did
    on the day Jerusalem fell.
    “Tear it down,” they cried,
“tear it down to its foundations!”
8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,
happy is the one who repays you
according to what you have done to us.
9 Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks.

Please note that God himself didn't write the psalms. You know who did? An emotionally disturbed Christian, a man who faced many troubles in his life. This psalm is but one of the times we see how the King wasn't as "perfect" as people imagine Christians to be--he actually wished his enemies children were murdered--but the verse was included in the Bible. Not as a guide to follow, but as a warning: Christianity isn't all fun and games. You will hurt and wish terrible things, but you need to be strong in faith and ignore your own pain.
