    Mainstream Music...

When I was younger I used to listen to a lot of mainstream music. Now I don't even pay attention to it, I don't even know what the #1 song is. Mainstream music makes me sick because it's horrible pop music that's poorly produced and made for sellouts. I don't mean to offend any mainstream music listeners, but this music just pisses me off. Popular music a few decades ago were great bands such as The Beatles, or Jimi Hendrix, GNR, etc. Now popular music is full of pre-pubescent boys, hermaphrodites, etc.

So any thoughts on today's mainstream music? Why you like it? Why you dislike it?

I like it because SOME of it is new and fresh, they take it to a new level. But, like you said, most of it's just whiny pricks. So on a whole, I don't listen to it.

Lol yes some of it is quite decent. But most are just sell-outs. :/

I completely agree, I haven't listened to main stream since I was 12, because I enjoy listening to music thats lyrics go deeper then money. For example, Wiz Khalifa was my favorite rapper and when he came to Seattle and went to his show I had the time of my life and smoked a couple blunts, but since he's gone mainstream there's going to be 14 year old girls at his shows now, completely eliminating weed from his concert. A rapper whose every song mentions weed, now has a virtually weed less concert. Isn't main stream awesome?

Not all mainstream music is shitty pop (though I won't disagree a large majority of it is). Foo Fighters are mainstream, and they're one of my favorite bands.

Foo Fighters are amazing, my fave song from them is "The Pretender", But i'm just saying that mainstream music, some of it has changed for the worse.

I used to listen to music that was played on the radio, now I don't :S . (This only goes for Rap)

Some mainstream rock/alternative rock that is played on the radio is pretty good.

The only "mainstream" rap that I still listen to consists of Tupac, Bone Thugs, Dr. Dre, and a few others just to name a few.

    Techno <3

It's mainly mainstream rap and pop that have gone downhill.

I hate mainstream, even mainstream rock bands like Foo Fighters largely due to the radio playing the same songs over and over (I hear Rope by Foo Fighters on the radio at least 3 times a day).

I think my main issue is with radio stations, they play the same songs all the time causing me to get sick of them.

I don't listen to the radio except for at work.

Fuck, I can't tell you how much I agree with that. It's a shame how much a particular type of audience can influence certain musicians. When the wrong type of audience starts getting into the good music, it sad when their influence starts showing up in the musician's work

As much as I hate to say it, the pretention can go both ways. I've met tons of people who have this 'better-than-thou' mentality because they listen to music that not many people have heard of. It's a shame that good music can fall into the hands of people like that
