I wish I could have lived in the '50's.

This is probably one of the weirdest posts I'll ever have, here on Sythe, but I'll just say it.

I want to go back into the 1950's, and live as a kid in that era. Something about it is just so damn appealing to me. Recently, I've read the book This Boy's Life by Tobias Wolff. I never read, so this was obviously for school, but the book really got me thinking. I want to wake up, walk to school, get beaten up and have my lunch money taken away from me, then get picked up from my vulgar father in his Chevy Bel-Air. Then I want to go home, have my dad belt me because I got a bad grade, then wander around the neighborhood with my ruffian friends, vandalizing things and causing mischief.

I just think all of this would be so neat.

Dude, I'd join you, with my slicked back hair, black leather jacket with the collar turned up, worn jeans, and my old pair of Converse sneakers.

    I'd go back to 1940s.

Growing up during the 50s and 60s would of been great considering that the space age was coming into fruition. Imagine seeing man land on the moon at a time when most people didn't own a tv. I bet a lot of people that grew up during that age were inspired by such great events. To bad we don't have anything like that going on today.

I think that many peoples' imagination on the 50s is a sitcom image like you described. All perfect and happy, but really that's just how media portrays the 50s. I doubt that there ever was a jolly family with mom making pot roast every night and dad playing ball with the son. But if there was such a life, i'd be in for it alright.

Haha no, I'm not, but I totally see how someone could picture it like that. It's just so much more... simple.

Holy shit, another person that's just like me.

WW2 makes me want to go back to the 40's.

Back To The Future makes me want to go back to the 50's lol.

Heavy Metal makes me want to go back to the 80's, the 80's seemed like a careless era where teenagers just ran away from home and did drugs everyday. Seemed so crazy. I'd go to so many concerts, man you don't even know lol.

God damn! I was thinking about Back to the Future as I wrote my original post, but I didn't include it because I forgot exactly which scene I had etched in my mind so well.

But wow bro we should be friends. lol.

So you wanna get bullied in school, get abused at home and be a juvenile deliquent? Gl with that.

1950's never appealed to me, mostly cause I would be sittin in the back of your bus and being a second class citizen.

I wish I could have lived in the '50's.

You do realise that Jack Wolff hated his life? If you liked the book, it was also made into a movie.

As Worsnop said, things back then were not care free. How many wars were coming even after WW2? The Cold War scared the crap out of people.

Other than that, people were just so ignorant back then. "If they drop an H bomb, remember, get under your desk!" Would you really want to have a false sense of security/bliss because of general stupidity?

Why would you want to live in an age, even for a few years, without the microchip and other revolutionary technologies that you use everday now?

Living now is just fine for me, even in the past decade there has been such technological advancement our society is thriving from. I think I remember reading that by 2020 or 2030 we will have cars that drive themselves. The concept cars have already been created and successfully tested, it just needs to be developed further or whatever.

Sure, we are killing our planet quicker from some/most of what we do today, but I'll let my kids and grand kids worry about most of that.

You probably think it's better then it actually would be. Back then the rules were much more relaxed. Which is pretty cool. You could get away with a lot more and do more things.

I see what you're saying, but I think most of this is just the want to experience it. I'd love to go back in time, but I wouldn't trade trade it for how things are now.
