Are you in a relationship? [Poll]

I am. I think its worth it. I don't think you should go out with random people though just cuz you kind of like them. I think you should only seriously date if you could see yourself having a long lasting relationship. Otherwise its not worth the hardship. Just my opinion though

 

You seem to be forgetting the obvious social and physical barrier known as puberty.

 

I am, been with Angela for 4 and a half years, or something.
Oct 13 is our 5year.
Engaged since July 28 2010.
Friends since god was born.

This is the barrier from which my statement is derived. An individual changes severalfold over the puberty period (which isn't '13'; it's a several year process). And it's for this reason that I don't think you can apply your logic to this situation. In your opening sentence you seemed to jump to the defence of your relationship, and I'm merely saying I disagree with said defence.

As I've said, I'm not openly against it, I'm merely saying that there's a fundamental flaw in your logic due to the differences in maturity between 13 year olds and 18 year olds. That said, I don't advocate this sort of situation either... I have a 13 year old sister, and if she was involved with someone who was 16, even 15, I'd probably have something to say about the situation.

 

Then your rebuttal was reductio ad absurdum. You cannot discount that a huge amount of maturing occurs in the first couple of years. That is why it is acceptable for people to start "going out" during highschool; it's the accepted line from which people generally start.

Nonetheless I do see where you're coming from, but nonetheless the age difference here is unimportant. She shares morals which are akin to my own, and in terms of maturity I find we're much on the same level, at least for most things such as social interactions and intimacy. We know each other's limits and respect them, and for that reason I find the age difference to be ambiguous or arbitrary at best.

In Annabelle's case she's December of '96, meaning she's been thrown in to a group of Year 10s (Sophomores I think in American terms), most of which are a year older than her, and therefore her social maturity has been forced to conform to that anyway. In essence, two school years separate us, and that's acceptable by most standards.

I'm a bit confused there, we may be talking about different education systems. Anyway, based on paragraph two of your quote I see little problem with your relationship; again it was only the argument presented that I questioned.

Yep, her name is Amanda. We've been dating for four years now. We practically live together. We're both starting college in the fall, so that's gonna be tough but I have no doubts we'll make it through it. We're both 19 btw.
