What is the purpose of our existance?

What is not pessimistic about being a parasite? What is not optimistic for being here for a reason?

 

I believe the purpose of life is to find that "intensity" in your life (opposite of soberness) & you can do this through gaining knowledge about things you know, & things you choose not to know.

 

It's wholly subjective - a serial killer is not what we would consider a working member of society yet he or she has formed their own autonomous purpose.

 

A serial killer is most definitely a working member of society, it's just a negative working member as opposed to a productive or positive one.

 

No one knows, there's Athiests view, there's religions view, thiests view etc. But this is a question that can never trully be agreed upon by everyone.

 

"purpose" is a human idea in the first place. that being said, it is up to an individual human to decide what their "purpose" is.

Do i think there is some universal purpose for humans? no.

 

I am going to ignore some of the current arguments and say MY OPINION.
I think we are here to destroy the planet.
Everything has life and death, the planet was made and we are slowly depleting the resources that this planet provides (killing it in effect).
Once again, my opinion.

 

I know you've explained what 'working member' means previous. But are you really just referring to every human being? It just confused me slightly because using the word 'working' and even member implies something else (i.e. working towards a common societal goal; a conformist member to; etc) and narrows the scope of application. IMO. I suppose it doesn't make a difference, but it probably would be better to talk in more general terms for such a question rather than using ambiguous terms/phrases.

 

The phrase 'working member of society' is rather broad, but there can be exclusions to it. 99.99999% of people in living on this Earth contribute to being a 'Working Member of Society', whether they're a Criminal, a beggar, homeless, a business man, a priest, a scientist, a farmer, the list goes on.

Give me 5 examples of people you think do not contribute to society as a working member and I'd gladly point it out as to how they contribute to the world as a whole.

if this is your definition, we all contribute to the world as a whole when we die and decompose. so......

but rly, wouldn't this be more of a consequence of existence than the purpose of it?

Disregarding that everyone still contributes during their conscious existence.

I don't like saying 100%, as I always believe in outliers of sorts, but essentially It is 100%, I just have a habit of putting 99.9999.

 

Now that I have a better grasp on how you conceptualise the term would you consider a coma patient in a hospital who is being kept alive by a machine a working member of society?

 

Staff must be allocated to him, in order to monitor his status, family and friends would grieve depending on whether the coma was medically induced, or an estimated permanent one. Hospital resources are spent on this man, which in Australia the way the Government allocates money to the hospitals is beyond abysmal.

You could argue that he is not contributing anything to society, rather society is doing contributing to him. What about before he was in a Coma, surely he was contributing to society, and now that he in such a state, society is contributing back to him.

 

I agree. They buy more beds for the hospitals yet the thing which is really needed is more staff and better wages.

I was talking about his or her contribution in their current state - which can be indefinite.
