Ron Paul running for president! 2012

    So....Ron Paul's running for president.

    thoughts?

    I personally think its great.

He is a person known to be an "authentic nut". When he says he will do something, he will do it. no matter how radical, ineffective, or unpopular it may be.

He is really into civil liberties and giving the government less control over individuals and wants the people to have more control over their own lives.

He wants to give states the right to decide its own laws for things such as drugs, abortions, porn, etc.

He would not even mind legalization of hard drugs such as heroin. He is not saying he advocates its use, but wants people to actually have freedom and have a choice. Drugs, etc. would be regulated and treated as public health problems like nicotine and alcohol. He knows that just because something like heroin is legal, doesnt mean everyones gonna go out and shoot themselves up.....I know i wouldn't

He wants to pull us out of Iraq/Afghanistan completely. He knows that the main reason all these terrorists even come to america is because we are in their territory....It would be like if the chinese kept its entire navy in the gulf of mexico...

He wants to abolish the Internal Revenue Service.

He wants to cut back on military spending and military over-extension.

He will seriously take care of debt problems in effective ways.

40 Million Americans on food stamps with a $15 trillion deficit and we are building roads and buildings in the middle east?

He will end all corporate subsidies

and my personal favorite....During his 1988 presidential run, High Times magazine, which caters to marijuana users, published a cover story under the headline, "Ron Paul: Pro-Pot Presidential Candidate."

there are many other pros as well as the ones i have listed here.

so again i will ask..... thoughts?

Ron Paul would make a very good president, I think. I will definitely vote for him when the time comes if he is still in the run at that time. Unfortunately though I think Obama would probably win if he was nominated for a second term.

edit: Is he even going to run? lol, I'm on his website now and it doesn't seem like he really wants to

I think he would make a great president but he won't get elected. He has said he is for legalizing prostitution, marijuana, heroin, and gay marriage which are big no no's for a lot of conservatives which he'll need to win the nomination.

    unfortunately i think your right.

He would make a phenomenal president/leader but will probably never see the oval office sadly.

all the people voting against those things are basically the ones making America really not a "free" nation.

I agree, at first I thought he was some dumb Republican like George Bush but with these things he's trying to legalize I see he isn't.

Btw, wasn't he trying to run in the past? lol.

EDIT: Ah he's tried to run numerous times lol

yes he has tried to run in the past ^ :p

and ran on the same principles he runs on today, even when they were even more unpopular back then. this is just a prime example showing that he will do what he says and will not be persuaded by anything whether it be popular public opinion, or fellow politicians in the opposition.

This is why he would be an amazing leader.

I really like Ron Paul. He's a smart guy and has solid (though not exactly "politically correct,") ideas for the most part.

I'll admit, though, the Republican thing, due to past experiences, is somewhat of a turn-off for me.

Ron Paul's popularity, since his 2008 elections, has increased dramatically, people in America are beginning to wake up, especially to the financial disaster we are heading into. He stands as good of a chance as any of the other GOP candidates, last I checked he won the CNN pole on who'd be the best GOP candidate against Obama. Faux News pronounced "Cain" the "winner" on the debate a couple weeks ago, on Fox, but, according to the poll on their website (last I checked) Ron Paul had a couple more thousand votes than Cain.

As for the drugs issue, what's wrong with legalizing drugs? You can't just have "some of this, some of that, a little freedom here, some freedom here" to fit your agenda. As Ron Paul also said on the debate, drugs are still getting into the country, illegally, and people are still using them. You're acting as if the general population is just going to start using Heroin, I'm certainly not going to use Heroin, not because it's illegal, but because of my own personal choice, I could easily obtain the substance if I wanted it.

As for Gay marriage, what's wrong with it? He never said anything about legalizing, or keeping gay marriage illegal, he just wants the Federal reserve to bud out of marriage in general! They have no business doing such! I don't think I should have a license to say that I'm married..

I'm Canadian, but I strongly encourage all Americans to vote for him in 2012. If these progressive changes happen, I'm sure Canada will follow.

I'll definitely be voting for Ron Paul. I think he'll have much more success on the campaign trail this time.

He has some serious flaws (ex. non-interventionist foreign policy, his opposition to evolution in schools, his support for the gold standard, etc.) which put me off to supporting him, although his anti-drug war stance, coupled with a few other political positions of his which are outside the norm, make him an interesting candidate who I will definitely be following.

i completely agree jimmy. But to me every candidate always has pros and cons. But his pros seem to stand out to me more and seem more progressive/effective than any pros other candidates have under their belt (to me).
So he has me behind him.
