Google has announced Google Chromebooks (http://www.google.com/chromebook/#chromebooks), set for release on June 15th. They run Chrome OS, which I have one of their pilot netbooks, so I know quite a bit about it. The price seems a bit high, but they also are basically doubling the speed of the netbooks compared to the pilot ones. I personally would want the more expensive Samsung one, but I wish they had not put their damn name on it.

^So happy about this, going to get one ASAP. Below is an interesting link, the whole idea behind them is that they want to help people gain access to computers and code. They are openly encouraging hacking their system, modifying it, and making it whatever you want to be. Also, they are going to be leasing them out for as low as 20$ a month for students (fucking awesome). Google ftw.

That's really great. After the Sony lawsuit against the guy who hacked the PlayStation, this is a great announcement.

Looks great. I would like a netbook or something like that but I tend to do things on the internet that would need a little more power than those come with. If I ever get one though, I'd probably get this one

Will it have word processors like Microsoft word? Because if so it would be ideal for school. PowerPoint etc.. would also help.

Sound's very promising, I like the sound of it. Chrome never seem's to really let me down. Looking forward to it, thank's SuF :)

I'm also wondering about their capabilities. I know when I browse the internet I typically have 3-5 chrome windows open with 15-20+ tabs each using about 2gb of ram or so.. I would be questionable as to whether or not it can support heavy usage like that

Its coming with a dual core Atom, which is fairly decent I'd think. These Chromebooks are made to be good, not cheap.

You can use Google Docs, which works very well for note taking and stuff. It will take some time to beat Office though.

    That's kind of insane.

I love what google is doing to the new chromebook. I can't wait for it's release.
I dislike that you have to access music that has been uploaded online. I wish they designed it in a way where we could store music on the device itself. On majority music is a large part of everyones lives, I feel as if google should recognize this.

They don't look that cool, I would expect them to have a somewhat Google-like theme to them.
It'd be cool to see them with a Google emblem on them with a steel case resembling Chrome.

I have to agree with this! Google seems to lack the image that apple holds. Apple can make anything look good!

If I didn't have an iPad I would get this, Google products are something I prefer using over Apple.

They seem price friendly and promising for buisiness and work. Excited to see what it will be like.

They realized this and you can store and play videos and music on it, to an extent. There is not that much storage, but there is some.

They wanted a simplistic design. I have the CR-48 Pilot one, and it has no logo at all. Everyone thought that it was a Mac and it looks very similar to both of them.

Why is that a problem? There is internet basically everywhere. They are also making all of their products like Gmail and Google Docs work offline.

It is, but I'm on the computer a lot and tend to not want to have to find sites later or add to my already too large list of bookmarks. Plus it's not all the time.

Usually 1 window for Sythe and runescape
1 for facebook, music, and youtube
1 for homework and random shit I'm looking up
Occasionally If I'm actually playing runescape I have another window open that I throw up the rswiki, GE, and all those calculators people use..
Plus some of my browser games use a lot of resources. Like BeGone from nplay.com.. I occasionally still lag on my desktop.

I don't think a netbook would meet my needs, is all. I would love it if could though.

I would also assume it is compatible with external storage for music and videos?

I see. I assume they are adding support for all sorts of external storage and they added a built in media player for local files.

I also found a shitty article(http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2070607/Google-Chromebooks-Why-You-Should-Just-Say-No) and am arguing with the author. :p

These look pretty neat, and if it weren't for the price tag (and the fact that I don't really need another computer), I might consider getting one.

As for the music issue, I'm using Amazon Cloud Player at the moment, and it works great (Google is also working on a cloud-based music player). It took me a few hours to upload all my songs (which, admittedly, is only about 200), which is a bit more than the time it would take to download and install the newest iTunes (which I haven't done in months, since it requires re-downloading the ENTIRE program).

Anyway, once these become a bit less pricey they'll be perfect for everyday computing, and their power will increase as the quality and quantity web apps continues to go up.
