Help on upgrading from XP to Windows 7.

    Hey there,

I bought a Windows 7 key, but don't know how/where to download Windows 7 files. I know that I have to back everything up, etc, due to it being Windows XP.

    Can anyone help? :)

I would start with Microsoft's official 'Windows 7 upgrade advisor'
    You can get it here:
    upgrade advisor

    Also give this a look:
    Windows anytime upgrade

Back up whatever you need, I typically use rsync or ssh to back up on to ssh. Archives are exported to USB//External Drives accordingly.

There are also services that allow you to upload files for backup via internet.

Good Luck on your quest, 1ce

Thank you, and I have these. What I'm looking for is how to DL the ISO for Windows 7. I have the activation key, but not the programing.

Actually, downloading the installation media from internet is not illegal, if you do have the legit key for it. If you can somehow assure me that you have legit key (maybe through admin/mod), I can tell you where you can download the installation media. And I dont mean any .torrent files.

Damn wrong~! with xp that was A-ok, with vista/7 that's completely different. 5,000-350,000$ fine for infringement. Vista/7 was never designed to be shared, Not even on a corporate level. The cdkey isn't an issue, it's individual software per package.

Try reading the license agreement sometime, you'd probably crap yourself at the 'rights' you're loosing by using the software,.. it's enough to make you go back to xp that's for sure.

Actually, if you have the cd-key you can register to microsoftstore and download the installation media from there. Atleast Home Premium and Professional versions, I dont know about Ultimate/Enterprise though.

    Same goes to Office products.

Yes... I know this.. that's why I said as much and provided MS links a few posts up. Still cost roughly 120$ though.

But downloading an *.iso image off a warez site weather you have the cd key or not is still piracy.
