Safest way to use bought account?

Okay, you may have already read another thread i posted about a very high level i bought off someone off ebay :love:

I was a little worried that the dude was going to recover the account back, so i've refrained from putting anything on the account yet.

I set a new password, new email, new recovery, paid for a new membership..

I bought the account 2 weeks ago and he hasn't recovered it as of yet so all is ok (so far)

I would like to play on the account properly but at the moment i'm just standing around talking to people because i don't want to transfer items to the account to skill with incase he recovers the account and takes them :/

About a week ago i created a pin, it took a week to set but i now have a pin on the account's bank.

Here's the question, if i transfered some cash over, say, ~100m.. and after every session i banked it all... If he was then to recover the account with his old information, could i just recover it back with my new information i set and get my 100m the hell out of there?

OR - would him recovering the account with old info cause my more recent recovery info to not work/become void, thus not allowing me to recover it back?

would him recovering the account automatically remove the accounts pin or would he still have to wait 7 days?

I'm not sure how the recovery system works so would like a hand, thanks :nuts:

Just wait a month and see if he recovers.

 

I've heard stories of people recovering several months or even a year down the line, so that doesn't really prove anything

 

If you have your NEW recovery information, and NEW e-mail, that the owner does not know, you have the upper hand.

 

Original IP = almost always recover it's back

I'm unsure of how jagex will look at your new recoveries compared to his, did you do a recovery test ?

 

Perform a recovery test on the account right now. See if you are able to recover it with the current details you have set on the account. If the recovery is successful, then it is obviously safe for you to add GP/items to the account. If not, simply contact the original owner and ask him to retrieve the account for you. This should be no problem if he is a legitimate seller.

As i've said over and over in the past, there's no safe way to buy a runescape account. Most likely they will alway's get recovered unless there sold to you by a trusted member.

 

Wait a couple of hours until the recovery is processed. Pending means Jagex hasn't inspected your recovery request as of yet. If the recovery is not successful and you contact the seller and he doesn't retrieve the account for you, then he is obviously a scammer. So it isn't worth adding GP/items to the account in the first place.

 

Hundreds of accounts are bought and sold each day. There is no way anyone will be able to determine the username of your account.

 

Hahaha.. that's not what i meant, i meant... i hope when jagex look over this account recovery request they dont look over its recent history (which has been going mad over the past few weeks) and click onto the account itself being dodgey

 

do you have the original password, because if you have original password, recoveries, email, pin, membership. Im 80% that it'll be original IP

Okay, so the appeal was accepted after about 20 minutes, which is good, right?

However, when i now login after the appeal my recovery questions are not set anymore? Doesn't that mean if he recovers using old info it will "unset" the current recovery questions, just like it has here?

I know.. and i'm stupid, but the account was cheap enough so if he recovered it back i would be pissed off but i wouldn't lose sleep over it, i'd just be mega bummed if he took my items

he gave me some previous passwords which i have just tested with the account recovery, he didn't give me any old recovery questions, email or membership. The accounts bank came without a pin, and the account is extremelly old so i doubt he will have still use the original IP

 

Well, he's recovered the account, a little over a month in, i used my head and didnt transfer anything over so he got absolutely nothing except the £120 i paid for the account.

It's still a hell of a lot of money to lose though, i really don't care much about losing the account as i didn't really play on it much anyway.

And i'm not crying on the floor like a baby for losing £120 either, i could make that back easily with a couple of days at work but it's just a matter of principle now, i'd rather he didn't get away with my money.

I've just opened a paypal dispute for a refund, however my hopes arent held very high - i have a feeling i will lose due to lack of proof. (and their rules about disputes on virtual items)

What is the likelyhood i will win the dispute? :/ i'm guessing >1%?

If i lose the dispute how else can i get my money back?

I find it pathetic how people can do this with their lives lol...

 

i lost my main after it was hacked. battled back and forth for awile. eventually i got it back because it was original IP acc was made on. But if the account seller had anytime of creditcard for membership he can automacially get it back at any time i think.

 

I had an account recovered off sythe, i think if a 3rd person were to take the account, i would have more information, and be able to take the account.
I think one of the biggest things is the IP. Jagex have logs of everything. So they can see what exactly happened...
1) 1 person with an IP we will call X has an account
2) Suddenly, the account is played on a different IP we will called Y
3) Just as it is played on Y, the account details are changed dramatically.
4) If the original owner hasn't moved house/provider/changed their IP, they can try and recover, and jagex will look and see the IP matches the original owner, who was the obvious owner (all the details were changed, as the IP changed from X to Y).
5) all jagex want is the original owner of the account to have the account. So it's obvious if the IP changes, then all the details o.

As expected, he recovered.... It's stupid that people would do this.... Do you have any of his personal details? Since you bought it off Ebay, surely you've got to. I'd give him a call or something and try to reach a solution. I'd never buy an account unless off a trusted person on Sythe.

 

yea bad choice on buying an account on ebay when you should know that its not covered. =/
